Rya, a compassionate psychology professor, is summoned to conduct an interrogation of Dany Sullivan (portrayed by Tom Holland) following his arrest for a 1979 shooting incident in New York City. Speaking of her salary for The Crowded Room, the actress made $1.25 million for her portrayal of Rya Goodwin. In contrast, Tom Holland received a handsome amount of $4 million for taking on the role of Danny Sullivan.
