The Paramount Deal Resulted In Tom Cruise’s Loss

Top Gun: Maverick became the most successful movie of the year 2022, and was a hot deal for the cable and streaming platforms. And this opportunity was grabbed by Paramount. Yet Paramount had a hard time releasing the movie on Paramount+, their streaming service, and the only reason for this is Epix, the TV channel. Epix was once owned by Paramount but MGM took over it in 2017 with a contract of 5 years allowing Epix to run its films. The contract was extended till 2023 in 2022.

The contract was not causing any problem in its functioning as Paramount never launched any major film. But the entry of Top Gun: Maverick changed the scenario, as the sides associated with Paramount were worried about their cutting profits because of its deal with Epix. Tom Cruise lost a possible profit as the Epix-Paramount deal made the deal beneficial for Epix but not as much profitable for Paramount. Thus Cruise could not manage to earn as high profits and lost a significant amount.
