Spider-Man: No Way Home was a treat for fans who love the Spider-Man universe. Not only did they get to revisit some of the most beloved villains from the past, but they also saw the Spider-Man meme come to life with Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, and Tobey Maguire. Now, it looks like Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 could be on a similar track.
In less than a year, Ryan Reynolds will be seen returning to play Deadpool and making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with him, he is bringing the beloved X-Men member, Wolverine. However, it looks like Deadpool 3 could bring back even more names from Fox’s X-Men universe. Is Deadpool 3 going to walk down the same road as Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Is Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 Reviving the X-Men Universe?
Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox was the first step toward the direction of bringing the X-Men into the MCU. Hugh Jackman, obviously, is making his return as Wolverine in the film despite having said that he is retiring from the character. It’s worth noting that if the studios can get Jackman to return, who knows what other tricks they are hiding up their sleeves?
Marvel already dipped its toes into the X-Men universe with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when Patrick Stewart returned as Professor Charles Xavier aka Professor X. While he was the leader of the Illuminati in a different universe – Earth 838 – it could be Marvel leaving out a hint that the X-Men are joining the MCU.
On top of that, Halle Berry, who played the role of Ororo Munroe aka Storm in X-Men, is rumored to be reprising her role in Deadpool 3. Not to mention, other X-Men members, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Yukio, and Colossus, played by Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, and Stefan Kapicic respectively, are also going to be seen in the threequel.
Is Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 going to be another multiverse saga just like Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Fans are Divided Over the Possibility
Of course, fans are yet again divided in opinion about the idea of Deadpool 3 merging the X-Men universe with the MCU. You do not need to look further than Twitter to find these varying opinions in their full glory. On one hand, fans are quite excited to imagine the multiple possibilities with the X-Men coming into the superhero universe.
On the other hand, there is a large group of fans who are worried that the film is going to be nothing more than a fan service. Fans believe that the movie is going to be “built on cameos” and is going to exploit the nostalgia factor.
Check out what the two sides are saying on Twitter:
When Deadline asked Kevin Feige about when the X-Men will be fully integrated into the MCU, Feige replied,
“That’s what Jennifer Walters just asked the robot in the final episode of She-Hulk. I’ll give you the same answer he gave…and no answer was I think what he gave. But Deadpool and Wolverine…we’re getting close.”
Okay, Feige, we got the hint! With mutants Ms. Marvel and Namor, making their way into the MCU, it’s safe to say that the X-Men are just around the corner. According to scooper EmberOnCulture, the original X-Men will be seen in Avengers: Secret Wars. It only makes sense that Deadpool 3 opens the door for that.
Deadpool 3 releases in theatres on May 03, 2024.
