Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s upcoming Black Adam will take the comic-book movie industry by a storm. Though the movie has been planned since 2014, The Rock finally put everyone at rest by releasing a short teaser ahead of the upcoming DC FanDome event.
Dwayne Johnson was set to make his debut in Shazam! (2019) as an antagonist, but, he decided to enter the scene with a solo movie instead. Now in its initial phases, no confirmed story has yet been released. Yet, there are ample opportunities to make Black Adam one of the best origin stories ever told which will connect the DCEU to both its future and its past. Let’s find out.
10. The electrifying persona of The Rock!
From being the most electrifying man in the sports entertainment to one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, The Rock is a force of nature when it comes to contagious personalities. His meteoric rise to become one of the highest-paid actors in the industry is awe-inspiring.
Having The Rock in your roster is nothing short of winning a lottery for the DC Extended Universe. He might not be Daniel Day-Lewis when it comes to acting, but the man knows how to pull a crowd with his enviable charisma.
9. Lawrence Sher as the Cinematographer
Todd Phillips Joker received critical acclaim with a staggering box-office collection of $1.074 billion against a measly budget of $70 million. Though the plot and characterization did polarize the audience, the cinematography received unanimous acclaim.
Lawrence Sher’s inventive and ingenious cinematography was nominated for both BAFTA and Academy Awards. With Sher on board, we can only imagine the cinematic experience Black Adam will boast about.
8. The rapport between The Rock and Jaume Collet-Serra
Patty Jenkins – Gal Gadot. James Mangold – Hugh Jackman. Jon Favreau – Robert Downey Jr. Connect the dots. Though not a prerequisite, a great rapport between the director and the lead actor can work wonders for the movie.
Jaume Collet-Serra and The Rock have collaborated for the upcoming Jungle Cruise. Having worked together, the task of bringing their artistic vision to the big screen becomes much easier.
7. MORE MAGIC!
Despite having a small budget, David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! received widespread acclaim for its light tone, acting, and striking fight sequences involving magic and lightning.
Now with The Rock on board, the budget for Black Adam will most probably be staggering considering his stardom. With such a high budget and discovering Black Adam’s origins in ancient Egypt, the atmosphere is going to be electrifying, quite literally.
6. Jaume Collet-Serra’s Craft
Yet to find his big break, Jaume Collet-Serra has a once-in-a-lifetime chance to shine with his Black Adam movie. Having directed the horror-thriller Shallows starring Blake Lively which was a commercial and critical success, Jaume Collet-Serra might be the right man for this job.
His other films include Orphan, Unknown, Non-Stop, and The Commuter.
5. Decadence to Redemption
Unlike most supervillains, Black Adam doesn’t stay evil forever. In the comics, he has turned to an anti-hero instead of being absolutely corrupted and evil.
After the arrival of Geoff Johns, David S. Goyer, and Jerry Ordway, Black Adam became a much more complicated and conflicted anti-hero trying to clear his name and reputation.
4. The SHAZAM! Family
In David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!, we got the first glimpse of the Shazam family. As Billy Batson shares his incredible powers with his foster family to introduce us to Lady Shazam, Captain Marvel Jr., and amazingly powerful heroes who aid Shazam against Thaddeus Sivanna.
As Black Adam is the primary nemesis of Shazam, we might get to see more of the Shazam family and their powers. Maybe, Black Adam vs Shazam Family?
3. Dark, Gritty, Violent
As per the official sources, Black Adam‘s overall tone is going to be quite different from Shazam!. While Shazam! was a fun movie particularly aimed towards kids, Black Adam is supposedly taking a much grittier, darker, and violent route.
Even as an anti-hero, Black Adam has a militant sense of justice, firmly believing in ‘An eye for an eye’. He has publicly executed supervillains in public, which puts him at odds with other superheroes.
2. Evil Origins
The DC Extended Universe might not be as successful as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it surely doesn’t shy away from exploring uncharted waters. With Wonder Woman, the DC Extended Universe released the first female superhero movie which received critical acclaim.
Similarly, with Black Adam, the DCEU will once again release the first movie with a supervillain as the lead character. As Todd Phillips’ Joker is not yet confirmed to be connected to the mainstream DC Extended Universe, Black Adam will be the first movie exploring the origins of Mighty Adam as he descends into the darkness to become Black Adam.
1. Justice Society of America
Remember when we said that Black Adam will connect the past and the future of the DCEU? As per confirmed sources, Black Adam will feature the Justice Society of America (JSA) for the first time on the big screen.
With Noah Centino joining as Atom Smasher in the movie, more details will soon be revealed about the roles and characters making their appearance in the movie.
