The trailer starts with Amanda Waller, the Stone Cold Shot-Caller of the Suicide Squad revealing the terms to prospective members. As always, Suicide Squad members are either death-row inmates or prisoners with a life sentence that are given a second shot at freedom as long as they agree to have an explosive attached to their necks and become Waller’s personal hounds of war. Waller is played by Viola Davis in the movie.

Joel Kinnaman, who played Colonel Rick Flag in the first Suicide Squad movie, returns to play the part in the sequel. Margot Robbie aka Harley Quinn is back as the Clown princess of Crime. The more prominent stars that will be seen as part of the new Suicide Squad are John Cena and Idris Elba, who will be playing Peacemaker and Bloodsport respectively. Jai Courtney reprises the role of Captain Boomerang from the first film. Nathan Fillion plays T.D.K and Daniela Melchior plays Ratcatcher. David Dastmalchian, Flula Borg, Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Michael Rooker, Juan Diego Botto, Sean Gunn, and Steve Agee play Polka-Dot Man, Javelin, the Thinker, Blackguard, Savant, El Presidente, Weasel and Kingshark. Two new female additions to the Squad will be Mayling Ng, who will play Mongal, and Alice Braga, who will be portraying the role of Solsoria.

There are still as of yet undisclosed roles for many other newly revealed actors taking part in the movie as supporting members of the cast. Jennifer Holland, Taika Watiti, Joaquin Cosio, and Tinhashe Kajese have as of now unknown roles to play in Suicide Squad 2.

A production of DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, Troll Court Entertainment, and the Safran Company, the movie will have Warner Brothers Studios as the Global Distributer. Peter Safran, Simon Hart, and Charles Roven will be co-producers for the new suicide squad movie. James Gunn sits on the Director’s Chair for this one.

Despite being described as a sequel and a continuation of the events of the previous Suicide Squad movie, the movie’s shot-caller have consistently called that Suicide Squad 2 will be an attempt at initiating a “soft reboot” of the DCEU sub-franchise. Peter Safran one of the three producers for the movie went as far as calling it to be a total reboot rather than a soft reboot. Considering the amount of changes done to the team, it was only plausible to call the sequel a reboot since the entire tone and theme of the movie has been drastically modified and re-customized. This is an all-new Suicide Squad with an all-new story to tell.

In another video reveal at DC FanDome, James Gunn him-self called the trailer to be the most innovative and unique thing he has worked on. His exact words were:

“It’s going to be different from any superhero movie ever made,”

Here is the video:

The video has several behind the scenes moments. There is a lot of drama and over the top action. Idris Elba can be heard claiming that once they watch it, the audience will say “How did they do that?” It is a “Twisted Fantasy of Characters”, says Idris Elba, who plays Bloodsport in the movie. David Dastmalchian plays Polka Dot-Man in the movie. He says that there is not person who would have been better suited for the role of the Director for the Suicide Squad sequel than James Gunn.

James Gunn says that Suicide Squad 2 is the biggest project he has ever undertaken. Considering that he has been the one behind Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, that is saying something. Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), says something pretty cryptic – “Don’t get too attached”.

Whatever that’s supposed to mean?? Get ready for Suicide Squad 2. It is going to blow you to smithereens, patch you up after the interval, and then blow you up once more just for the heck of it.

The Suicide Squad is set for a global release on the 6th of August, 2021.
