Dave Bautista says that someone else could play Drax the Destroyer after wrapping up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as his contract with Marvel Cinematic Universe comes to an end.
There have been talks about Drax and Mantis appearing in a separate title for a while, Bautista said in an interview. “This was really James Gunn’s idea. He wanted to make a film about Drax and Bogomolov. He said, I thought it was an excellent idea, but I didn’t hear any further action in the studio. I don’t really care about them or their plans. I don’t think it doesn’t fit, but nothing else; as far as my promise goes, I have Guardians 3, and maybe this is the end of Drax.
As the quote caught the attention of fans, Dave Bautista and director James Gunn tweeted:
“Drax doesn’t go anywhere,” Dave Bautista explained on Twitter. “Drax isn’t going anywhere. He just won’t be played by this dude! By the time G3 comes out, I’ll be 54 yrs old. For God’s sake I’m expecting everything to start sagging any second now.”
Dave Bautista became a real star with Drax the Destroyer and proved that he’s capable of doing humor, display range of emotions and supernatural body, creating one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But nothing lasts forever, and Bautista, who is currently in his 50s, looks very peaceful while his contract with MCU is ending, suggesting that the character may still not be played by other actors.

Guns reply to Dave’s tweet
Gunn said: “There’s no Drax for me without you, buddy! You ARE the MCU’s Drax the Destroyer and, as far as I’m concerned, could never be replaced. And you have the right to do whatever you want with your acting choices!”. This tweet warms our hearts and it probably suggests that there won’t be replacement for Dave’s character, Drax the Destroyer.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is set to begin shooting this year and hit the screens on 5th May 2023.
