After portraying the character so perfectly, Daniel Radcliffe is heard almost always synonymously with Harry Potter. But despite being the multi-talented that he is, Radcliffe seems to have apparently put his career in the Harry Potter franchise in danger after pissing off Warner Bros executives with his n*ked scenes in the 2007 Broadway play Equus, as per reports.

The actor, however, had a different view on the topic than the media. Talking about his n*de scenes and JK Rowling‘s reaction to them, Radcliffe said,

“After the first couple of previews, I didn’t really care anymore. It all seemed to imply the n*dity was gratuitous which it isn’t at all. She [JK Rowling] is coming to see it at some point. I don’t think she objected in any way. She was very happy to see me going off and doing something else.”

Furthermore, he also added how he wanted people to see him as more than just ‘the boy who lived’, saying,

“Part of me wants to shake up people’s perception of me, just shove me in a blender. It’s a really challenging play, and if I can pull it off — we don’t know if I can yet — I hope people will stop and think, ‘Maybe he can do something other than Harry’.”

Being the fabulously skilled actor that he is, Radcliffe didn’t want to be renowned for just a particular role but wanted to explore all the different genres and the characters that came with them and be known for those.

Since this happened while the Kill Your Darlings actor was still acting in the Harry Potter franchise, it didn’t take long for the media to raise remarks against this with reports surfacing claiming Radcliffe had put his Harry Potter career in danger.

However, Warner Bros executives turned out to be in a completely different view of the situation compared to the news reports floating around. Issuing a statement in favor of Radcliffe, they said,

“Daniel Radcliffe is an extremely talented actor, as well as a great collaborator and friend to Warner Bros. Pictures. We’ve had great experiences working with him on our films and fully support him in the artistic choices he makes as an actor.”

Just like that, Warner Bros slammed down all reports of Daniel Radcliffe jeopardizing the Harry Potter franchise, and the actor continued to play ‘the boy who lived’ and be loved for it.

You can stream all 8 parts of Harry Potter on HBO Max.
