Warner Brothers have been working on its ten years plan for DCEU, and things don’t seem to be going well for the studio. After merging with Discovery and canceling several projects, Warner Bros. Discovery has been out to look for a producer who can manage the whole DCEU. The Lego Movie director Dan Lin, who was the top contender for the role, has rejected the studio’s offer to take the lead for DC Comics Films and TV Shows.
The WB Discovery merger has caused many films and shows under the studio to be trashed, but there is no doubt that DC shows and films have been a major target for these cancellations. Batgirl, which almost completed the production, was canceled along with Supergirl, Wonder Twins, and Young Justice animated series.
Warner Bros. Discovery Struggling With DCEU
Warner Bros. decided not to release the sequel to 1992 The Batman: Animated Series, Batman: Caped Crusader, on its streaming platform but decided to sell it to any other streaming platform.
The restructuring doesn’t end here. The studio extended its deal with The Batman director Matt Reeves, confirming the return of Robert Pattinson as The Batman.
With all these changes and the cancellation of shows and films, DC fans are not happy with what Warner Bros. has been doing with the DCEU.
Taking it into consideration, the studio is looking for a new producer who can take command of the DC Extended Universe for their 10-year plan. A producer who can look after and provide his expertise for each show and film under the studio and DCEU.
Why did Dan Lin Reject Warner Bros. Discovery’s Offer?
Dan Lin has experience working with the studio and franchises and has proved that he can take on big projects and make them successful. Dan Lin has worked under WB for several movies, including Sherlock Holmes, It, and The Lego Movie, and TV shows Lethal Weapon and Walker. These films have performed well at the box office, and have received positive critics.
Neither the studio nor the producer has said anything about why Lin refused to accept the offer. But according to people familiar with the matter, Dan Lin refused to take the offer to focus on his production house, Rideback. He formed the company in December 2007.
Dan Lin
Dan Lin wants to focus on his production company. However, under WB’s offer Lin was asked to leave the company alone. Sources say that Dan Lin was offered compensation for leaving it, but he did not agree with it. There are also rumors about some finances getting in the way.
Now that Dan Lin has refused to take charge of Warner Bros. Discovery’s DCEU, fans may have to wait a little longer to see DC superheroes get in action once again.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upcoming DCEU Movies
Upcoming films under the DCEU, which are set to release, are The Flash, The Black Adam, Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, Blue Beetle, Joker: Folie á Deux, and Shazam! The Fury of Gods.
There have been rumors regarding other DC films, including a sequel to 2022 The Batman after the studio extended its contract with Matt Reeves. Other possible movies are Wonder Woman 3 and a Superman reboot, but nothing is confirmed yet.
The current producer, Walter Hamada, decided to leave after the studio canceled The Batgirl. But the studio convinced him to stay on board until the release of their next DC film, The Black Adam.
Even after Hamada agreed to stay for a while, Warner Bros. still had very little time to find a new producer for the DC Extended Universe. The film is less than two months away from its release, and DC has lost its best choice to take over Hamada. Now we can just wait and see who will be Warner Bros’s next choice after Dan Lin to lead the DCEU.
The Black Adam will release in theatres on October 21, 2022.
