One Piece is amongst the most popular anime and manga franchises in the world today, having received several video game adaptations, merchandise, and even a live-action adaptation by Netflix. Its core themes of adventure, friendship, freedom, and fun are universal and have a lot of mass appeal. Considering the fact that there are likable, easy-to-root-for characters, a unique art style, and many fights that get your blood pumping, it’s easy to understand the franchise’s popularity.

Given that the manga of One Piece, and by extension the anime, are both still ongoing, there are a lot of unanswered questions. While the vast majority of them will probably be answered eventually, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about certain mysteries. Some of these are more likely than others, while some are so ridiculous that they strain credulity.
What does the theory about Crocodile and Luffy say?
One theory that is pretty hard to believe is that of Crocodile actually being Monkey D. Luffy’s mother. Despite how strange and impossible it sounds, it is surprisingly popular, even as Crocodile has tried to kill Luffy numerous times in One Piece.
The theory states that when Crocodile met Ivankov, the latter blackmailed him with certain information. Proponents of the theory argue that Ivankov used his gender-changing powers to turn a female Crocodile into a male one, and they point to how Crocodile looked androgynous as a child. They then turn to how Luffy and his father, Dragon, being family is a closely kept secret and even Ivankov doesn’t know.
Furthermore, supporters point to how Crocodile suddenly changed his attitude towards Luffy once everyone found out about Luffy’s and Dragon’s relationship and even moved to help him out during the Marineford arc. This theory sounds outrageous and implausible but technically isn’t impossible.
What are some other famous One Piece fan theories?
After being theorized about for a long time, it was recently confirmed that becoming King of the Pirates isn’t Luffy’s sole goal in One Piece. In a flashback, Luffy tells his adoptive brothers Ace and Sabo about his dream but the viewers don’t get to hear it. Luffy also tells his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, about his dream in the manga and they laugh in response. It is hinted that Gol D. Roger, the King of the Pirates, had the same dream as Luffy and others laughed too when they heard about it.

As for what the dream is, it is said to be inspired by Shanks and his fun-loving crew, with whom Luffy spent a lot of time as a child and they became his ideal for a pirate crew. Luffy’s dream is said to be childish: to throw the world’s biggest party! The Straw Hat Pirates throw a grand party with friends and allies after every adventure of theirs. The theory further states that after Luffy becomes King of the Pirates and frees the world from the tyrannical World Government, he will celebrate with everyone by throwing the world’s largest party.
