Henry Cavill is one of the most talented and remarkable actors in the Hollywood industry. The actor has given some famous roles in the past years in films like Enola Holmes, Mission Impossible- Fallout, etc. However, he became famous worldwide for playing the DC Extended Universe caped superhero, Superman. The character was widely appreciated and garnered a massive fan following. However, the actor was quite embarrassed when people didn’t recognize him on the streets.
The actor revealed in an interview about an interesting experiment when he stood at Times Square, in front of a Batman v Superman billboard. However, people failed to recognize the British star.
Superman star Henry Cavill was humiliated at Times Square
The actor had taken part in an experiment for his film, Batman v Superman. Cavill played the Kryptonian superhero in the film. He went on the streets of Times Square and stood under the giant billboards of Batman v Superman. He had also worn a Superman t-shirt to test if people recognized him on the streets. Surprisingly, no one recognized him.
The actor revealed the reason for experimenting, in conversation with Jimmy Kimmel on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live! Man of Steel star recalled,
“There’s been so much doubt about the validity of Superman’s disguise, which is the glasses. I think it was a perfectly reasonable disguise. So, I put it to the test. The only person who stopped us was someone who was asking for directions to the central station. And there was one other person who said, ‘Hey, hey, hey, you can’t take photos in here.’ That was it.”
The actor had a smile on his face as he told the story, but only he knew how embarrassing it was to not be recognized, even without glasses.
Henry Cavill wanted to play the role of Superman for a longer duration
The actor made his DCEU debut with the role of Superman in Man Of Steel. Henry Cavill he worked in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and did a cameo in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.
On being asked by Collider about his gains from the role of Superman, Cavill replied,
“I wouldn’t say it’s about the craft or me as an actor. It is personal to a degree.”
He explained,
“I felt like Man of Steel was a wonderful opening story, an origin story to Superman. It left a lot of space for him to grow beyond that and become the hero, that we recognize. Batman v Superman took a hard turn down a darker route, and it was a Batman perspective story, so it didn’t really show the aspects of Superman, which I was very, very keen to show. Justice League Snyder Cut definitely leaned into that a bit more. I had a bit more of a gentleness to the tone of the thing, but I would love to have the opportunity to play the Superman that we all know and love from the comics, as a continuation of his development, and we see the hero.”
“That would be really, really exciting for me because there is an opportunity to tell a lot of interesting stories there. It’s just about finding the right hooks to have a character that is as good and idealistic, as Superman, that there are wonderful opportunities to delve into what it’s like to exist as him and those hardships that come with that. When you have to save everyone, how hard is that on you? That could be an interesting line to run.”
The actor hung his cape after the Black Adam film, and in the upcoming film, Superman: Legacy by James Gunn, David Corenswet played the lead role.
