Although prominent insiders @el_bobberto and @charlieINTEL believe that these maps will be available on day one, others believe that they may take the form of a premium DLC. Some early leaks about MW3 implied that there would be a “greatest hits map pack” for the newest game, giving players a blast from the past with a modern upgrade.

The maps in question included in the leak are:

  • Afghan
  • Derail
  • Estate
  • Favela
  • Highrise
  • Invasion
  • Karachi
  • Quarry
  • Rundown
  • Rust
  • Scrapyard
  • Skidrow
  • Sub Base
  • Terminal
  • Underpass
  • Wasteland

The biggest issue that fans and leakers have cited is that if MW3 only features maps from previous Modern Warfare titles, the game is essentially glorified DLC. Another worry within the community is that MW3 may not live up to the previous instalments. This is because it is being primarily developed by Sledgehammer Games instead of Infinity Ward who were the main studio behind the recent Modern Warfare reboot.

The concerns over the lack of new maps and content also line up with leaks that MW3 is Confirmed to be Essentially MW2 DLC. In a statement to @charlieINTEL, an Activision spokesperson also confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 will be priced at $70:

“As stated in numerous Activision Blizzard quarterly conference calls, Modern Warfare III is a premium release. It will be priced accordingly at $70 USD.”

Although it will be nice to see some of these classic maps remastered for a new generation of hardware a $70 price tag and limited launch content, may leave a sour taste for some Call of Duty players.
