Cobra Kai Confirmed to Conclude Epic Run With Season 6 as Creators Promise More Spin-Offs in Future

Cobra Kai, the hit Netflix series that continues the story of the The Karate Kid franchise, has very recently posted an announcement on its official Instagram Account that confirms the upcoming sixth season will be the show’s last. However, the creators have teased something very exciting for the future to explore the different characters and stories within the Cobra Kai universe.

The Beginning of a Karate Legacy

Cobra Kai, which premiered on YouTube in 2018 before moving to Netflix in 2020, is a continuation of The Karate Kid story, picking up 34 years after the events of the 1984 film. The series follows the rivalry between Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio and Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zabka as they rekindle their feud through their respective dojos, Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do Karate.

The End of an Era

On January 20, 2023, the official Cobra Kai account announced that the upcoming sixth season would be the last for the series. In a statement, the creators expressed their gratitude towards the opportunity of continuing the legacy of The Karate Kid

“Reacquainting the world with The Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.”

The statement went on to tease that the sixth season would be the “biggest season yet,” The creators also teased for spin off projects for the future

“While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies. In the meantime, strap in for the BIGGEST SEASON OF COBRA KAI YET.”
