Since the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helms of DC, the duo has been adamant about scrapping the old Zack Snyder-led DCEU and crafting a cohesive narrative for the DC universe from scratch. And as a result, many Snyder fans have been urging WB Discovery to sell the Snyderverse property to Netflix and allow Snyder to finish his vision about the characters.
And even though the idea of selling the Snyderverse to Netflix initially appeared absurd, following the recent deal between WB Discovery and Netflix, fans are hopeful that it can become a reality.
Netflix’s acquisition of Dead Boy Detectives keeps Snyderverse fans’ hopes alive
Netflix has always shown a keen interest in acquiring DC properties, including The Sandman, and their recent acquisition of the Dead Boy Detectives property has once again sparked hope among fans.
Considering that the new DCU is years away from launching its first project, it appears that WB Discovery is currently relying on selling DC properties, which isn’t in line with James Gunn’s vision. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, they might continue to sell other DC properties to third-party-buyers to lower their debt. The report stated,
“The move of Dead Boy Detectives illustrates the importance of continuing to sell shows to third-party buyers for the Channing Dungey-led Warner Bros. TV studio as being an arms dealer remains a top priority for WBD.”
And even though the Snyderverse is a huge deal in comparison with the Dead Boy Detectives’ property. Fans have argued that instead of selling their character rights, they could lend the Snyderverse Storyline to Netflix and lower their debt and also dilute the backlash surrounding the new DCU.
And considering Netflix’s relationship with Zack Snyder, the director can finally get the chance to complete his vision and we might finally get to witness a proper return of Henry Cavill as Superman.
Henry Cavill can still return to Zack Snyder’s DC universe
Considering that the DCU will comprise its own Superman in the upcoming years, fans have speculated that if Netflix acquires the rights of the Snyderverse from WB Discovery, fans can finally witness the definitive version of Superman.
And even though Henry Cavill was axed from the role in the DCU. But considering Zack Snyder’s love and respect for Cavill’s depiction of the character, his return to the role isn’t a far-fetched thought if WB decides to sell the Snyderverse to Netflix.
Even though the acquisition of the Snyderverse by Netflix seems to be a distant possibility, considering the enormous debt that WB Discovery is in, it might not be as unfeasible as it appears. And we might finally get Henry Cavill back as the definitive Superman.
