To the surprise of gamers everywhere, Sony has made a handful of classic PS1 titles available to purchase on PS4 and PlayStation 5. The list of titles available is pretty limited but there are a few classics that will hit the nostalgia spot for some.

The store listings were spotted by user Bishop89 who took to the Resetera forums to share their lucky discovery. The list included Tekken 2, Ridge Racer 2, Mr. Driller and Ridge Racer Type 4. Although these titles have not been completely inaccessible on newer consoles, the option to buy them to download permanently is new. Previously, to get access to PS1 titles like these on PS5, users would have to purchase a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
Although this service allows you to play titles from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP generations, once your subscription runs out you are blocked from playing any retro games. However, this one-off-buy option allows players to have access to these classic titles permanently without the use of the subscription service. All these titles are available to purchase for £7.99 or $9.99 in the US.
What Are These Retro Titles on PlayStation 5 All About?
For the uninitiated Tekken 2 was released in 1995 and is an iconic staple of the fighting game genre. If you want to get a chance to play a fantastic old-school fighter or jump back into the fists of Marshall Law or the classic sword-wielding style of Yoshimitsu, for £7.99/ $9.99 it’s worth a go.

Mr Driller is an arcade classic. It was released in 1999 and takes the form of a puzzle game where the player must dig their way to the bottom of the screen by destroying coloured blocks that litter the playing field.
The version of Ridge Racer 2 available is the 2006 PSP version rather than the 1994 PS1 version. If you’re wanting the ultimate retro experience, you’ll want to play Ridge Racer Type 4 instead. This is a 1998 game, and probably the best Ridge Racer title available on the PS1.

One thing of note with the list of purchasable titles is that they were all published by Bandai Namco. Could this mean that we’ll see classics such as Time Crisis or Soul Edge available on PlayStation 5? Will you be picking up any of these titles?
