Zendaya's Dune 2 Deals Devastating Blow to MCU Co-Star Brie Larson's The Marvels

After the intense cinematic battle of July between Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, two other high profile films are slated to fight for top honors in the month of November. Zendaya’s Dune 2 and Brie Larson’s The Marvels will release within a week of each other and the expectations for both these films are already skyrocketing.

But unlike the equal importance given to ‘Barbenheimer’ that saw both films finding their niche audience, Dune 2 looks to be tipping The Marvels to come out as the preferred film of the winter season. With IMAX already looking to give the Zendaya’s movie more visibility, Brie Larson’s Marvel project may find the going tough.

IMAX Favors Zendaya’s Dune 2 Over Brie Larson’s The Marvels– Netizens React

After ‘Barbenheimer’ fever, Dune 2 and The Marvels will fight for supremacy in November 2023. While The Marvels is set to release on the 10th of November, Dune 2 will precede it with a 3rd November opening. While both franchises have their committed fan following, it looks like Zendaya may just beat her Marvel counterpart Brie Larson in the race to the top. IMAX has confirmed their loyalty to Dune 2 in no uncertain terms by stating that they will provide unlimited screens for the Zendaya film for 5 to 6 weeks after its release, indicating that The Marvels will have to wait in line.

Following this announcement, netizens took to social media to comment on the decision. Most viewers looked to be supporters of Zendaya and Dune 2 and felt that this move by IMAX was the right one. Brie Larson and The Marvels, meanwhile, struggled to find favor on social media with many viewers believing that the film would fail.

While this looks to be a big blow for MCU and The Marvels even before the film’s release, time will tell if IMAX will have a change of heart as the month of November approaches.

Zendaya Will Have More Screen Time In Dune 2

While Dune starring Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya became a huge blockbuster, netizens and Zendaya fans had a grouse that their favorite star did not have enough screen time in the film. Zendaya plays Chani in the series, a Fremen woman who appears in Chalamet’s character Paul’s visions during the first movie. This meant that the Spiderman: No Way Home actor was present only for 7 minutes in a 2.5 hour film despite being an integral part of all the promotions leading up to the release.

But it is now known that Zendaya will have a prominent part in Dune 2 which will feature her character appearing in the flesh for most part of the film. From the 3-minute trailer, the Euphoria star’s character dominates the frame as she prepares to fight alongside her people in battle. Dune 2 is expected to be another action-packed ride with Zendaya and Chalamet’s characters also kindling a much- awaited romance.

Dune 2 will release worldwide on November 3rd, 2023.

The Marvels will release on November 10th, 2023.
