It can’t be denied that Cillian Murphy has enchanted the world with his performance as the Father of Atomic Bomb in Christopher Nolan’s latest release. While his performances have often been subjected to wide appreciation, the actor is also widely known for his ocean-blue eyes. Not only the fans but his Oppenheimer co-stars and Nolan were also held hostage by the charm of his eyes.
The Irish actor has enjoyed a long-term relationship with Christopher Nolan working with him in six renowned projects. As Cillian Murphy portrayed the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer in the latest star-studded fest, it can be understood that it’s not only his skills that impressed the associates.
Cillian Murphy’s eyes garner praise from Oppenheimer co-stars
The recent week was bliss for movie lovers after they witnessed one of the major pop-culture phenomena in recent years- Barbenheimer. Besides the cultural significance and presence of a critically acclaimed director, one of the main similarities between the two projects was the presence of an ensemble cast.
Oppenheimer boasts of a long list of A-listers in it. With names like Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and many more, the movie presented one of the major events in World History. But despite such a crowd, Murphy undoubtedly presented a stand-out performance in the Christopher Nolan brainchild. While the whole world was busy applauding his acting skills, a joint interview also picked another side about how the Inception fame’s eyes fascinated everyone on set.
According to a joint interview of Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Cillian Murphy, taken by PEOPLE, Murphy’s eyes were a great distraction for his co-stars. Damon played the role of Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves and according to him:
“It’s a real problem when you’re doing scene work with Cillian. Sometimes you find yourself just swimming in his eyes.”
It didn’t take long for the Jungle Cruise fame to join her voice and Emily Blunt also admitted that the eyes of the Peaky Blinders actor remind her of Billie Eilish’s song Ocean Eyes.
“It’s like that ‘Ocean Eyes’ song by Billie Eilish. We just hum it all day.”
Although Cillian Murphy tried to protest a bit by claiming “They’re not even that blue!”, who are you kidding man? Moreover, those eyes were even successful in mesmerizing the captain of the ship himself. Christopher Nolan has repeatedly stated how he loves Murphy’s eyes and loves to watch them repeatedly.
Christopher Nolan is an ardent admirer of Cillian Murphy’s eyes
The Maestro of Complex Narratives started his association with the Irish actor in Batman Begins. If Christopher Nolan is to be believed, then those eyes were a major reason why the filmmaker was interested in seeing Murphy in The Dark Knight Trilogy.
After Nolan spotted a picture of Cillian Murphy in a San Francisco newspaper after the release of his 28 Days Later, he was immediately determined to find him out. the Dunkirk director revealed in an interview with EW earlier:
“I remember I was up in San Francisco writing Batman Begins and there was something in the San Francisco Chronicle about 28 Days Later. I saw a picture of you with your shaved head and your crazy eyes — no offense. I remember being struck by your presence, literally from that one photograph”
As per Nolan’s wish, Murphy also screen-tested for Batman which ultimately went to Christian Bale. But the Interstellar director was certain that the 47-year-old actor would have to be in his movie and thus he ended up with the role of Scarecrow aka Jonathan Crane.
According to IMDb, Christopher Nolan was so obsessed with those blue eyes that he searched for endless reasons for Crane to remove his glasses. Now while Oppenheimer has landed with a huge bang earning critical acclaim, it can’t be denied that Murphy’s eyes are also nothing less than lethal weapons.
