Christian Bale has impressed the fans with his recurring physical transformations and intense acting, which is evident in all of his projects. His versatility adds much texture to his craft making his roles more realistic which is a high-level technique not everyone can master.
Christian Bale Got His Hands on Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige Script
“We were originally gonna make this film before we did Batman, [We had] a different cast and we were very close to making it, and realized we weren’t going to have time to do it justice.”
After the DC film hit the theatres, he decided to shift his focus back to its initial project however Bale was not in the scene until he himself shared his interest in working with Hugh Jackman and Nolan. The filmmaker shared that the Thor: Love and Thunder star somehow got his hands on the script and wanted to play Borden’s role.
“Christian actually just called out of the blue,” he stated. “I’m not even sure how he got the script, but in the intervening years, the script had kind of made the rounds. He called me up and said he’d be interested to play Borden, which seems exactly right. It’s kind of unthinkable now, anyone else doing that.”
He subsequently knew that the DC star was the right choice for the character with Bale entering the project all thanks to his initiative. Meanwhile, his co-star, Hugh Jackman was hired before the Gorr star even came into the scene.
Marvel Star, Hugh Jackman Got Cast Before Christian Bale!
“Hugh came onboard I think before Christian, actually.”
He continued to share why he thought the Deadpool 3 star was the best fit for the role.
“I hadn’t worked with Hugh before and heard he was interested in the script. [I] met with him and he just seemed to embody exactly this balance that we needed between having a sense of integrity—classic leading man—with this great… stage showmanship that the character has to have.”
On the other hand, the Marvel star himself admitted that the director asked for his preference between the two lead roles with him choosing Angier as he thought was fit for him. Other than the duo, it also starred Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, Piper Perabo, Andy Serkis, Rebecca Hall, and David Bowie. It was positively reviewed earning $109 million worldwide in its theatrical run.
The Prestige is available on Prime Video.
