Johnny Depp is one of the most renowned names in the industry. The Pirates of the Caribbean star is widely popular for several reasons. His role as Captain Jack Sparrow is one of the most iconic characters seen in Hollywood. Despite being such a big name, his Public Enemies co-star Christian Bale didn’t show interest in talking with him during the filming of the movie.
Public Enemies is a 2009 crime drama film directed by Michael Mann. The film featured Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis. Focusing on the life of the great robber Dillinger, the movie was widely appreciated by both the critics as well as the audience. According to The Dark Knight fame, not taking part in a conversation with co-stars was a part of his job.
Why didn’t Christian Bale talk with Johnny Depp?
As per Christian Bale, the actor follows a strict principle of acting and avoids talking with his co-stars. This is usually followed by him so that the on-screen chemistry between the characters isn’t affected.
The Prestige actor is highly known for his method acting skills. Interestingly, these iconic performances are products of some strict rules followed by him. In an interview with Wales Online, Christian Bale said:
“I didn’t want to talk unless it was while we were doing a scene, I enjoy it that way. Johnny seemed happy to do it that way, too, so I guess the answer is no, we really didn’t get to know each other better between takes.”
From this, the professionalism possessed by both actors is well evident. During another interview with Collider, the Thor: Love and Thunder actor also showed admiration for Johnny Depp and his performance in the movie.
“He does his own thing. He makes very interesting choices and makes a real variety of movies. I find that interesting. I think naturally he found Dillinger to be a fascinating character and I think he did a superb job with it”
Bale also added that this helped in their performance in the movie as the story was quite similar to their dynamics on the set. But on the other hand, many friends from Hollywood have abandoned Depp and stopped talking with him after the tumultuous experience with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Johnny Depp lost numerous friends after the trial
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s topsy-turvy journey is not unknown to anyone. Following a long-going series of accusations and controversies, Depp won the defamation trial against the Aquaman actress. This legal drama was a highly publicized event and Depp was awarded $10 million while Amber Heard got $2 million in a counter-suit.
After Johnny Depp won the trial, he posted a heartfelt note on Instagram thanking his followers. But soon after, when some classified documents regarding the case got leaked, several of his friends unliked the Instagram post. Some of the prominent names were Robert Downey Jr., Orlando Bloom, Sophie Turner, Bella Hadid, and Joey King. This chain of unliking Depp’s post by his friends clearly showed the newly formed distance between the star and them.
Recently, Johnny Depp seems to be regaining his lost fame. The actor is working on a French film titled La Favorite. He is also working on a project titled Modigliani which he is also co-producing with the legendary Al Pacino.
