Gorgeous actress Anna Faris has been part of several popular movies and TV shows. She is famously known for her work in comedy films, owing to her special comic talent. She rose to prominence with her lead role in the Scary Movie franchise. The actress can also be credited with tons of box-office hits like Brokeback Mountain, Waiting…, Just Friends, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, What’s Your Number?, The Dictator and more. The actress played a prominent role in the film Lost in Translation.
The actress received lots of criticism from fans of Diaz for her character as it seemed like it was like a parody of the diva.
Anna Faris was shocked by allegations of mocking Cameron Diaz
When the film was released, there were rumors that director Sofia Coppola was indirectly taking a dig at Cameron Diaz with the help of Faris. People alleged that her character of ditzy actress Kelly was a parody of Diaz. However, Faris was shocked to hear the rumor,
“I don’t know exactly where it started, but pretty soon everyone was asking me if I was parodying Cameron Diaz. I felt terrible, because first of all Sofia [Coppola, writer-director] never mentioned her. We had talked about a couple of actresses, nothing too specific, and certainly not Cameron.”
She added that she does not think Coppola thought of Diaz when making the film. Faris felt bad about the rumors and wanted to make amends with The Bad Teacher star.
“I wanted to apologize to her but I guess I never got the chance.”
The film director Coppola also personally address the rumor in a conversation with Daily Beast,
“The character of the actress was based on a bunch of people—just that type. I could probably name eight people that she was based on, just that bubbly, extroverted blonde that you see on talk shows. It was the opposite of the Scarlett character, where I was feeling very introverted and didn’t know what I was doing.”
The film features Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray in lead roles.
Anna Faris felt more recognized after Lost in Translation
Faris was initially popular as a comedy star and her Scary Movie franchise. But the reach of the films was only among youths. However, the perception of her changed with her role in Lost in Translation. She felt the movie offered her a chance to show her wide range as an actress.
She shared with Contact Music,
“There are studio heads and people in this industry who have never seen Scary Movie. Even though a lot of the younger generation is familiar with me, a lot of important people didn’t know me. These people have now seen [Lost in Translation] and it feels really good to have people know my work a little more.”
In a resurfaced interview with BBC, Anna Faris shared,
“Lost in Translation has definitely given me more of a legitimacy because it has been so critically acclaimed, which is unfair I think.”
Lost in Translation was released in 2003 and it is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
