His acting was in serious trouble because some of the last films failed miserably at the box office. But even when things are tough, the great one never backs down. According to a recent report, he will earn the highest salary ever paid to an actor in the history of cinema with his upcoming film.
Being directed by Jake Kasdan, Red One, which will release later this year, also stars Chris Evans, JK Simmons, Lucy Liu, Nick Kroll, and others.

Dwayne Johnson is currently one of Hollywood’s most successful actors, and he is about to reaffirm that title. He is now prepared for a new smash after Black Adam became one of the recent DCU setbacks and his life-focused series Young Rock was canceled.
The Rock and his co-star, Chris Evans, are all set to star in a movie titled, Red One. The upcoming Amazon Studios Original film is scheduled to be released in December and has the potential to break previous box office records for the former wrestler.
In addition, the Fast X actor has received a record-breaking salary for his role in, Red One, according to the latest reports. Johnson is expected to make $50 million from the film.
Any actor has never received a salary as high as this $50 million for a single role. For context, Deadline and Forbes reported that Johnson had previously made a combined total of $23.5 million from working on the films Jumanji: The Next Level and Netflix’s Red Notice.
Other films the actor appeared in and their respective earnings are: Jungle Cruise ($22 million), Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw ($20 million), and Black Adam ($22.5 million).
This new record set by the 51-year-old actor surpasses the previous one, which was a tie at $40 million between Robert Downey Jr. for his work on Captain America: Civil War and Will Smith for his Oscar-winning performance in King Richard.
What We Know More About Red One?
For this upcoming Christmas adventure, which is slated for release during the Christmas season of 2023 on Amazon Prime, Dwayne Johnson teams up once again with the director of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level.
Although it is described as a buddy action comedy that aims to reinvent the Christmas genre, no further information about the movie’s plot has yet been released. J. K. Simmons will portray Santa Claus in the movie, which is another significant detail.
Johnson and Chris Evans will portray Callum Drift and Jack O’Malley, respectively. In addition to Evans and Johnson, Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, J.K. Simmons, Nick Kroll, and Kristofer Hivju are also featured in the ensemble cast of Red One.
Captain America: First Avenger star has also expressed his gratitude for being a part of this upcoming release. Evans recently revealed this to the audience at the C2E2 expo (via ComicBook):
“I’ve been in this industry for too long, but I’ve never seen a Christmas movie come across my lap. It’s never been on my radar. They happen. They’re occasional. But it’s never been something that’s come my way. So the fact that this one popped up, I was like ‘I can’t say no to this. I just can’t.’ And Dwayne is just unbelievable. He’s such a nice guy. He’s incredible at what he does actually, he’s so funny. He’s really charming and really knows. What [he] knows, he’s great at it and does it really, really well. And Jake Kasdan, the director, is just fantastic and the script is really funny. I just was like, I gotta take this opportunity. And it was fantastic. It was one of the best working experiences I ever had.”
Well, fans are eagerly awaiting more information about Johnson’s upcoming project, but one thing is for sure: The Rock’s presence in Hollywood will undoubtedly continue to rock the business to its very foundation.
