With season three of the critically acclaimed show, The Mandalorian inching towards its release, fans are curious about how the creators will deal with the absence of the fan-favorite Cara Dune from the show following Gina Carano’s firing.
And even though the actress has been shown the exit by Lucasfilm considering her long string of controversial remarks on social media. But one of the executive producers of The Mandalorian went on to express the importance of the character and how they will deal with her absence in the show.
Despite Gina Carano’s controversies Cara Dune will continue to be a big part
With season 3 of The Mandalorian on the horizon, Rick Famuyiwa provided insight into the situation surrounding the character of Cara Dune. While speaking with Deadline, Famuyiwa went on to express the importance of Gina Carano‘s Cara Dune and shared that despite her absence from the show, Dune will continue to be a huge part of the Mandalorian universe. He stated,
“Cara was a big part and continues as a character to be part of the world. It had to be addressed in the creative and [Jon Favreau] took the time to think about that. It was something that was discussed as we knew it was going to have impact on the show”
And continuing his explanation, Famuyiwa went on to share that they aren’t much concerned about Cara Dune’s absence, as the show will continue to comprise Din Djarin and Grogu at its forefront.
The Mandalorian season 3 will provide more importance to other characters
Even though the firing of Gina Carano from the role of Cara Dune was a colossal setback for the show, the creators don’t seem to be much concerned about the character’s absence in the third season. And despite her absence, the creators went on to emphasize the other characters, who can have the same presence as Gina Carano’s Cara Dune.
And although Dune was an integral part of Din Djarin’s journey throughout two seasons, the third one will witness Pedro Pascal’s character evolving past that. Dave Filoni went on to state,
“It’s a big galaxy and we have many characters in it, many characters are fighting for their screen time. We’ll just have to see what the adventures are as the season unfolds, but it’s a great character who was vital to Din Djarin’s beginnings; we’ll see if he has evolved beyond that.”
Considering the situation surrounding Gina Carano, fans are convinced that the actress will never get another shot at the role and believes that the character of Cara Dune is going to suffer a massive recast in the foreseeable future.
The Mandalorian season 3 is set to premiere on Disney Plus on 1 March 2023.
