Is James Gunn opting for non-American Clark Kent for Superman: Legacy?
After the massive success of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the first as well as the second weekend, director James Gunn has now shifted focus. Gunn is gearing up for his new project which will be the revamped DC Studios’ first movie, Superman: Legacy. Some of the names that are being discussed for the role of Clark Kent include Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, Jacob Elordi, and Andrew Richardson.
In a recent interview with The Insider’s Jeff Snider on The Hot Mic podcast, he was asked about the names taken for Gunn’s new and younger Superman. Snider shared that most of the names on the list are not Americans. He said,
“Can we get a f**king American Superman? Nothing against anyone, Henry Cavill (former Superman) did a great job and Christian Bale is a great Batman, but come on. It is the most American of the roles and everyone on this f**king list is not American.”
Talking about Andrew Richardson, he said that Tom Brady would have been a better choice, as Richardson is a bit old and does not have the looks of someone from the Midwest.

Sneider also added that he finds Nicholas Hoult an interesting choice but does not see him as a Superman. He joked about David Corenswet, saying if he could actually act he would be great. He also shared that he is not a fan of his show Pearl. He added,
“He looks like Henry Cavill, he looks like Superman. I don’t want Superman to look a certain way. I want him to look different than all the other Superman of the past.”
He also advised James Gunn to listen to his gut as Nicholas Hoult seems more like a Warner Bros. pick.
Snider dropped hints that the Warm Bodies star is seen in the light for the role of the villain, Lex Luthor. He was also supposed to play the villain in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7, but things did not work out.
Sneider also talked about the rumor that Gunn is in talks with one of his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars. The actor is none other than Bradley Cooper, who is reportedly being considered for the role of Lex.
Nicolas Hoult rose to fame with the fictional film Jack the Giant Slayer. David Corenswet was appreciated for his work in the 2022 film Pearl.
