In stark contrast to Call of Duty was The Flash, a movie that failed to meet critical or commercial expectations and became a box office bomb. It received a lukewarm reception at best from fans, and general interest in the movie was low despite featuring popular characters such as Batman.

How much did Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II earn in its first three days?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II surpassed expectations with its high sales, earning an astounding $800 million in its first three days of release alone, across platforms. That was a franchise record.  Just a week later, it crossed $1 billion and broke the previous franchise record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops II back in 2012.

Meanwhile, The Flash flopped at the box office, earning a meager $268 over 62 days. Compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s earnings, the difference is stark and obvious to all. In terms of the statistics, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II earned three times (2.98, to be specific) in just three days as much as The Flash did in more than two months.

Could Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III break that record?

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a shortage of chips which are core parts of any gaming console, and that’s why the sales for gaming consoles weren’t as high as they could have been. However, in a post – COVID world, this shortage has ended, which means that more people have easier access to buying themselves an Xbox, a PlayStation, or even a new PC/upgrade their PC.

All of this put together with the fact that Call of Duty has received even more coverage than usual owing to Microsoft’s Activision – Blizzard acquisition makes it likely that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will indeed break the record set by its predecessor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Add to that the fact that there have been significant sales of gaming consoles, and it becomes even likelier.

It wouldn’t be out of the question for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III to even cross $1 billion in sales over its first few days, as opposed to the ten it took Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Interest in the franchise is at an all-time high, and the fact that it continues to release on both current-gen and last-gen consoles, as well as the fact that it will release on the Nintendo Switch at some point, means that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is poised to break franchise records.
