Not a lot of people know this, but other than being a world-renowned actor famous for his roles as Indiana Jones and Han Solo, Harrison Ford is also a licensed pilot and even flies his planes from time to time. The American actor recently appeared for an interview and revealed how his life has changed after he almost died in a plane crash back in 2015.
Harrison Ford almost died in a plane crash back in 2015
Harrison Ford was involved in a terrible plane crash back in 2015 after his plane had some sort of mechanical failure. The Witness actor was flying his vintage World War 2 airplane when he had to make an emergency landing on a gold course and suffered a lot of injuries. As Ford himself once revealed in an interview, he suffered from, “a shattered right ankle, a shattered pelvis, a broken back, and a serious bump on the head.”
However, even facing a near-death experience was not able to stop Harrison Ford from flying again and the actor was back in the cockpit less than 2 months after his accident.
The Blade Runner actor opened up about Calista Flockhart’s response to the crash
Although Harrison Ford made a quick recovery after his horrible plane crash and was quickly off to flying again, his wife, Calista Flockhart however has never flown with the actor ever since the accident. The actor recently talked about the situation and also reflected on how his life has changed ever since the accident. He said,
“I changed a lot of things in my life. My wife does not fly with me in vintage airplanes anymore — she will in others. I certainly don’t want to have to recover from that kind of accident again. It was really hard on my family and it was hard on me. I went back to flying. I know what happened. So that’s part of the reason [I went back]. There was a mechanical issue with the airplane I could not have known about or attended to in any way. So in the words of the great philosopher Jimmy Buffett: Sh*t happens.”
Harrison Ford has also offered his pilot skills to emergency services on several occasions in the past. However, after doing it a lot of times, the actor stopped eventually as the people he rescued would go on talk shows and say that they were rescued by a ‘hero pilot‘ and this pissed off the actor a lot. He always insisted that all the people he rescued were a team effort and he would not have been able to do it alone.
