Ever since the release of the critically acclaimed Avengers: Infinity War, which is widely deemed one of the best MCU entries to date, fans have been divisive over the treatment of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the movie. And the actor’s recent remarks on The Russo Brother’s controversial decision of nerfing the green monster have once again sparked the debate surrounding the character.
And after The Avengers actor shared his viewpoint on the situation and commended the studios and The Russo Brothers over the controversial decision, fans haven’t shied away from sharing their distaste with his opinion.
Murk Ruffalo defends the MCU’s decision of nerfing the Hulk
While expressing his thought regarding the treatment of his character at Emerald City Comic-Con, Mark Ruffalo didn’t back away from defending the studio’s decision of nerfing Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War. Continuing his appreciation for Marvel, Ruffalo shared that initially the Hulk was supposed to come out in the third act of the movie but they eventually scrapped the idea. As it didn’t sit well with the storyline and they didn’t want Hulk to save the day again. He said,
“We shot it four times and it wasn’t working. And then, we realized that, well, the [Russo] brothers realized, that we couldn’t have Hulk, again, save the day. That we had to have Banner lose without Hulk. We decided it would be better for the story if Hulk doesn’t show up, and Banner has to somehow try to make friends with him. (laughs) Get him back.
And even though Ruffalo commended the MCU for their new direction with the Hulk since Avengers: Infinity, fans weren’t quite relished by the nerfed depiction of their favorite Avenger.
Twitter erupted following Mark Ruffalo’s defense for nerfing the Hulk
It’s a known fact that a major portion of the fandom wasn’t quite fond of Marvel’s decision to nerf Hulk and make him a hybrid of Bruce Banner and Hulk in the following MCU entries. And following Ruffalo’s appreciation regarding Marvel’s treatment of the iconic character, fans didn’t shy away from voicing their distaste for the character of Professor Hulk.
And with the MCU busy crafting the young Avengers line-up for their multiverse saga, it might be a while before we experience a truthful depiction of the Hulk in the future. And considering that Mark Ruffalo is open to the idea of returning to the role, fans will expect the character to go back to his roots in future entries.
