Among all the amazing films, including Blade Runner 2049, The Nice Guys, and Drive, that he has been attached to, 2004’s The Notebook resides a very special part in Ryan Gosling’s heart. Over the years, the actor has been pretty vocal about his love for the movie, as it helped the Drive Star to find his footing in the industry.
However, the epic love story between Allie and Noah might not have been the best influence for many couples at the time. And one such instance of the movie harming a relationship was explained by Gosling when he explained how one of his fan’s relationships was ruined due to the movie.
Ryan Gosling’s The Notebook ended up separating a couple
Even though The Notebook did push Ryan Gosling’s career to great lengths. However, the movie didn’t have the best impact on everyone, especially couples. Following the beautiful love story of Noah and Allie in the movie, it did go on to set up some unreal expectations for many couples at the time, which even led to some of them parting ways.
Gosling once opened up about one such instance, where one of his fans expressed to the Drive star that his fiancée left him, as he couldn’t build a house for her just like Noah did for Allie. Gosling explained the situation by stating,
“one guy told me that he was engaged and [his fiancée] broke up with him after that movie because she said to him, ‘You wouldn’t build a house for me [like the lead character does], would you?’ He was like, ‘Well, no, but I don’t know how,’”
However, the impact of this movie wasn’t just exclusive to his fans, as Gosling stated that his bond with The Notebook star Rachel McAdams was too affected by the movie.
Even Ryan Gosling’s own relationship wasn’t immune from the impact of The Notebook
Although the duo didn’t start on a great note during their time in The Notebook but would eventually become fond of each other after the end of their time in the movie. But even Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who would eventually part ways after 2 years of dating, would also witness the influence of their movie in their love life. The Drive star once joked about the situation where McAdams tried to imitate their on-screen romance in real life. He said,
“Yeah, every time I come home, Rachel screams, ‘Why didn’t you write me?’ Every morning I put arrows outside her bed. And I build her a house everywhere,”
Despite not having the greatest impact on every relationship, the movie is still adored by many fans to this day for Gosling’s and McAdams’ incredible chemistry between each other. And with The Nice Guys ‘ star new movie, Barbie inching toward its release, fans are assured that Gosling will once again hit the ball out of the park with the role of Ken.
