Ryan Reynolds’ R-rated superhero movie Deadpool 2 has been fans’ favorite, just like its prequel, because of its dripping irony and pop-culture gags. Although audiences pretty much expected the movie to be a massive hit, it’s safe to assume no one expected a cameo from Brad Pitt.
Popping up on the screen with his epic cameo appearance to make a surprising and memorable moment in Deadpool 2, Brad Pitt made people go frenzy. But guess how much he charged for the role? Often known for charging an eye-watering amount of $20M for his movies, the actor apparently made the cheapest cameo in his Hollywood career with Deadpool 2.
Brad Pitt’s Surprising Cameo In Deadpool 2
Initially starting off with a cameo appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Ryan Reynolds finally came up with his individual R-rated movie Deadpool in 2016. Performing well at the box office and gaining a massive fanbase, the movie went on to create its second installment Deadpool 2 in 2018. However, in the sequel, apart from Reynolds’ poignantly disfigured face and punchlines, there was a cameo that evidently bewitched the audience.
With none other than Hollywood’s most bankable star Brad Pitt appearing as X-Force member Vanisher, viewers went frenzied over the surprising cameo. The joke surrounding Pitt’s cameo makes it even more funny, as the actor appears invisible throughout Deadpool 2 only to pop up on screen just seconds before he dies.
Captivating the audience, Deadpool 2 earned nearly $125M in its opening weekend and a total of $785.8M at the box office. However, despite the million dollar earning, Brad Pitt did the cheapest cameo in his entire Hollywood career. “It was like a full crew for a half an hour, and Brad agreed to do it for scale, plus a cup of coffee.” screenwriter Rhett Reese revealed. Personally charging $20M for his movies, Pitt refused to charge anything but $956 for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 2.
Brad Pitt’s Simple Reason Behind His Deadpool 2 Cameo
Giving the audience, one of the funniest moments in Deadpool 2, Brad Pitt surprised fans with his 3 seconds cameo as Vanisher, entangled in electrical wires before being fried to death. Despite the hilarious scene, no one expected to see an actor of that caliber appear in an R-rated movie for mere seconds. However, there he was, entangled in wires, deriving laughter.
During a press tour for his movie Bullet Train, Brad Pitt revealed the simple reason behind his cameo. Speaking about his brief appearance in Deadpool 2, as the short-lived X-Force member, Pitt mentioned how easy it was for him. Brad Pitt shared,
“Pretty much, easiest thing I’ve ever done. Dave’s an old friend of mine and he used to be… he was my stunt double starting with Fight Club and all the way up till about 2004. And then he went off and became a really good director, which is rare. Rare.”
Thus, when Ryan Reynolds called to check if he was available and willing to do the role, Pitt agreed at once. “Ryan called and like, why not?” the actor recalled. With a hint of fan moment from Brad Pitt’s children for Deadpool, the film’s writer, Paul Wernick, revealed, “Ryan Reynolds reached out…and he immediately said yes”.
Further, taking advantage of the endless creativity behind the wheel, Deadpool 3 is expected to hit the theatres in 2024.
