Everything is pink all around and we’re loving it as Barbie is finally here to take us out for a ride in her pink Corvette. We can’t say if she is going out with Ken to take a look at the box office collections for the first day, but we can!
Warner Bros Discovery and Mattel have put in every ounce of marketing they had in their reserves to make sure that Barbie can be a sweeping hit at the theaters. Greta Gerwig had to compete with Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and fans have been curious to know who performed well.
Filled with fun and satire at the core, WB Discovery is having immense success with this project instead of the family superhero film that we got the sequel to, earlier this year.
Shazam! Fury of The Gods was released on March 17. While we welcomed two more actors to the roster, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as the antagonists, the film tanked really hard.
Barbie Goes Up Against DC’s Shazam! Fury Of The Gods
Margot Robbie, along with her co-stars and Greta Gerwig can open up that champagne bottle as Barbie has bagged the highest opening day collection title for this year, leaving even Oppenheimer behind.
Variety has reported that the film minted $22.2M on Thursday’s preview and went on to score $48.2M on 21st July’s opening.
Billy Batson and his Shazamily may have learned to master their newfound powers, but the film’s pushed jokes and cringe-worthy dialogues dented its box office performance.
Shazam! Fury of The Gods’ struggled to even touch the $60m mark after 48 days. The global finish line, at $133.8M was even less than double Barbie’s first-day collection.

Barbie Could Smash Shazam! Fury Of The Gods’ Lifetime Gross This Weekend
Be it I, Tonya, playing Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad reboot and Birds of Prey, or splashing pink around the world as the iconic Barbie, experts lauded Margot Robbie’s ability to pick roles that she is born for.
With the double trouble of writers’ and actors’ strikes trying to bend Hollywood to their will, it would be a remarkable feat if, according to the experts, Barbie manages to hit the $160M mark by the weekend.
James Gunn and Peter Safran really need to get their strategies in order for Shazam’s threequel as Barbie will easily zoom past the sequel by Sunday.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, with $33M, may have not been able to put up in the first-day collections, but it may very well blast through in the long run. Gerwig also has an opportunity to top Captain Marvel’s (2019) weekend collection which stood at $153.4M.
