The DC Universe has had many movies in the past two years that have been expected to save their dying franchise. None, however, have delivered even close to the expectations that the franchise and its co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran, set for the films. What is even more unfortunate is that the quality, hype, and earning of these films are becoming lesser and lesser with each coming project.
The incoming film, Blue Beetle is expected to have a lot of hype surrounding it, as fans are very excited to see a beloved character from the comic come to life on the screen. Recent predictions about the film and its release, however, are quite concerning.
Blue Beetle Gets A Very Unfortunate Prediction
Blue Beetle is the upcoming DC film, that adapts a beloved comic book character, showing the story of Jaime Reyes, who comes into the possession of the Scarab, an ancient alien biotechnology that chooses him as their host of sorts. With this, Reyes gets an incredible suit of armor as well as amazing powers that he explores throughout the film, all the while trying to defend himself from people trying to hurt him.
While the movie is expected to do quite well, with it being DC’s first film featuring superheroes for Latino and Hispanic audiences. On top of this, his character showcases a light-hearted, down-to-earth personality while being in possession of one of the most powerful weapons in the world. This is why, it is quite disappointing that recent predictions about the movie’s success state that the movie is expected to make around $30M in U.S. opening.
Why Is This Prediction About Blue Beetle Bad?
The reason why this prediction truly concerning is the fact the movie that came out just before Blue Beetle, Shazam: Fury of the Gods grossed only $100,000 more than this prediction and resulted in Zachary Levi’s role as Shazam being put on the back burner for the near future. On top of this, two movies that are actively considered some of the worst movies in the DC Universe, The Flash and Black Adam earned much more, with The Flash grossing around $60 million and Black Adam grossing $67M. Man Of Steel, a beloved DC movie, grossed $116 million in its domestic opening.
While this may be really for the film as well as fans of the character, they have not given up hope as many find this as motivation to go what this film even more. Many say that they are determined to break this expected number, trying to prove their love for the movie as well as the character.
