Sometimes during the filming of a movie, the drama isn’t only on-screen. There have been quite a few mentions of problems on set including diva moments and the cast simply not getting along with each other and Ryan Reynolds seems to have been a part of it, as well. The actor has first-hand experience with the cast not getting along on the sets of Blade Trinity.
As it turns out Marvel’s Blade trilogy’s lead actor had some trouble blending in with the cast of Blade Trinity, the final movie of the trilogy. While Wesley Snipes wanted to be a perfectionist in his role as a vampire hunter, his dedication to the character ended up causing some tension between the cast members.

During an interview with IGN back in 2012, Ryan Reynolds was asked about how he managed to work alongside Wesley Snipes, an actor who never broke character. Of course, Reynolds’ humorous personality might have found it a bit difficult to deal with the serious and focused Snipes, and that’s exactly what happened. Reynolds stated that he and Snipes’ personalities were polar opposites and that he never met Snipes on the set, he only met Blade. And while Snipes never broke character, even while off-camera, Reynolds has the utmost respect for him.
“My personality is the polar opposite of Wesley. I never met Wesley, I only met Blade, and he is a method actor. Say what you want about that style of acting, I have the utmost respect for whatever it takes to get through this process. We all say that these actors make so much money and they live such a life of leisure and privilege, but that is a vulnerable process, stepping onto the set everyday and performing in front of 110 judgmental souls. So whatever it takes for him or anyone else to get through that in a way that is artistically fulfilling to them, I have the utmost respect for.”
Although Reynolds respects Snipes as an actor, that didn’t mean he wouldn’t do everything in his power to break him for even a second. As stated by the Red Notice actor, he uses every moment he can just to get Snipes out of his method-acting.
“You know what, what I found was, I just use every moment. There’s a moment in the movie where I look up at Jessica and I swear to God, I didn’t even know the cameras were rolling anymore and I say, ‘He hates me, doesn’t he?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah.’”
He mentioned another instance where he analyzed Snipes and asked him if he ever thought about getting in touch with his inner child. Reynolds hilariously added that the lead actor just looked at him as if he was about to turn him “into a** pulp.”
While Reynolds doesn’t know if Snipes ever laughed at one of his shenanigans, he hopes that the guy was at least laughing on the inside and stated that it was a challenging process, like never before.

Troubles on the Sets of Blade Trilogy
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, cinematographer Theo Van De Sande stated that while Snipes had a lot of dedication towards the project, it often led to a stir among the cast and crew. Snipes even sued the production company for withholding his payment.
It was also reported that sometimes Snipes would leave the shooting to smoke weed and would engage with his co-stars only through notes. Due to his method-acting approach, Snipes stayed away from his co-stars, maintaining his character’s personality off-camera as well. The team even had to CGI his eyes open in a morgue scene as the actor refused to do so.
Snipes certainly was dedicated to Blade, no matter the consequences!
Blade Trinity is available to stream on Netflix.
