“Black Adam was mid, but he wasn’t”: Fan Campaign for Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate Movie Catches Steam

Dwayne Johnson once touted that Black Adam was going to change the hierarchy of the DC universe. However, that didn’t quite happen. The film with a budget of $200 million collected only $391 million globally. But, fans still loved some characters in the film like Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate even though they didn’t quite like the overarching plot.

Initially, it was reported that The Rock had planned to launch several spin-offs of his film. This apparently included a Justice Society of America film, a Doctor Fate film, and more. Obviously, with James Gunn, as well as Peter Safran, charting their new universe, those projects probably aren’t happening anymore. But fans aren’t losing hope.

Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate is an invaluable part of the JSA. He is the only one who brings Black Adam back to fight against Sabbac. Also, in the end, he gives up his life to save his teammates. In a film filled with half-baked characters, Doctor Fate’s full character arc and poignant moments shined through.

Even Brosnan appreciated the material he got to work with and said that some of Fate’s lines resonated with him. He said in an interview with USA Today:

“It resonated with me as a man who has lived 69 years and is on the cusp of his 70th year on the planet, and having seen friends pass before me while being close to the passing of lives. There was a deep poignancy.”

It definitely struck a chord with fans of the DC franchise too because they want to bring Brosnan’s superhero back to the DC universe.

One Twitter account mentioned that Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate was one of the bright spots in the Dwayne Johnson-led DC film. Many others also agreed with the original poster and soon people were demanding a Doctor Fate solo project.

Here’s what the fans are saying:

So is there a possibility of Brosnan reprising his DC role? There’s no way to be sure. But the actor is open to appearing again. He said:

“I think the door is open. I honestly have no idea where this will go. I just know I’m very proud of the work playing Dr. Fate and honored being part of the DC comic book world.”

So it now remains to be seen if Brosnan’s Doctor Fate finds a place in James Gunn‘s DCU.

Black Adam is streaming on HBO Max.
