Black Adam Reportedly Suffered in Story Quality Because "Dwayne Johnson Wanted Nothing But the Best for His Debut", Refused Compromising Despite Box Office Failure

If anyone in the Hollywood industry has an almost perfect track record of bringing smashing hits to the big screen, then Dwayne Johnson has to be at the top of the list. Starting his journey from the ring of WWE and making his way through challenges to emerge on the other side with just the same energy and passion, making the fans just as excited with his performance in the ring as he does with his performances on-screen.

The Rock has flourished after he stepped into the Hollywood industry with back-to-back superhits under his name, with his roles supporting and even laying the foundations of future films in many successful franchises. But somewhere on the road to becoming the best, it looks like he disregarded some aspects of what a successful film is made up of. Thus, his unrelenting attitude became the cause of the downfall of Black Adam.

May it be action, adventure, or comedy, Dwayne Johnson has been a part of all those genres of movies and has even dominated the box office with those titles for quite a few years. Thus, when it was time to take on the stage and make his debut in the superhero genre, he planned it to be the best out of any films that had previously been brought to the screen. But in doing so, he unintentionally doomed what could’ve truly been one of the best introductions of an anti-hero into the DCEU.

With a budget of $190 Million, Johnson’s DC debut film, Black Adam was going to be his entry into the competitive genre of superhero movies, and he couldn’t be more excited. But due to his persona of making the best out of everything he does, he failed to heed the ideas and suggestions of the officials at DC Studios, especially with then-newly-appointed CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, which made it harder for him to connect to the company as it strictly became a game of how the movie would perform at the box-office.

This pressure from the officials made it even more critical for the film to perform outstandingly, which initiated the series of reshoots that ended up costing the company another $70 Million, bringing the cost of the production to a whopping $260 Million. And even after so much, the Skyscraper star didn’t take into consideration the treatment of the story, which was a bit lackluster, and invested heavily in the visual spectacle. And thus, the film performed moderately well with a collection of $400 Million, which was unimpressive by WB standards, and thus, the Black Adam franchise was scrapped.

Although it was not all doom and gloom, as we got to see the last appearance of Henry Cavill’s Superman for the final time on the big screen, something that the fans wanted to see, and The Rock delivered.

With CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran deciding to scrape almost everything from the current DCEU to form an entirely new cinematic universe, it seems like Black Adam would be getting the same treatment, and it did, but there was a catch. With an official statement by Johnson himself, he had assured his fans that it might look like the character was out, in reality, he has just been benched for a short time till the studio can come up with a way to incorporate him once again.
