Jonathan Majors and Benedict Cumberbatch are currently one of the most powerful MCU actors in their respective roles. With Kang the Conqueror set to make his big grand entry in Avengers: Secret Wars, a leader of the superheroes is essential.
Before the final showdown in Avengers: Endgame, the role had been taken upon by the charismatic Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. After Phase 4 however, it seems that the British actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will have to fight Kang along with his newly made team of Avengers.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange Will Be The Lead
Although it had been prophesied and theorized for a long time, Benedict Cumberbatch will indeed have to step up and take the mantle of the team leader. Following the death of our beloved Iron Man in the final showdown in Avengers: Endgame, the responsibility (and the power) naturally came on the shoulders of Doctor Strange.
In a Twitter post that allegedly alludes to the above-mentioned theory, Kang’s perspective is narrated along with the POV of Doctor Strange. The tweet stated that Kang is trying to save the multiverse from the variants of Doctor Strange that are the cause of various attacks and incursions. Since Doctor Strange has been naturally considered the “good guy”, there are no sides to take currently on who’s the hero and who’s the villain.
With various reports of incursions and Kang the Conqueror trying to remove the obstacles, the fight will be much like Iron Man vs Thanos. In some special behind-the-scenes memories, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed what it was like to shoot with director Sam Raimi and the darker and heavier tone of the sequel to Doctor Strange.
Benedict Cumberbatch Loved Working With Director Sam Raimi
Audiences would remember quite well the numerous jumpscares that were littered around the 2-hour 6-minute runtime of the movie. With Sam Raimi helming the movie as the director, fans did not expect the MCU film to turn into a horror movie so soon.
Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he also loved the dark and creepy tone of the movie and working with director Sam Raimi.
“There’s an amazing amount of invention in the movie and thrills and spills and new characters and unexpected plot twists and developments. But at the same time it holds two very separate tones. One is very dark, and the other irreverent, snarky and fun and very much the character that we’ve come to know. There are some moments which are very scary in a kind of horror vein. Sam Raimi is a master of that genre. It’s a very Sam Raimi flavored film, which brings its own excitement.”
After Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania introduced Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, the people also learned more about the Multiverse and what it entails. With a deeper dive into Phase 5 of the MCU, Avengers: Secret Wars is slated for a release date of 1st May 2026.
