With the current ongoing strike of the writers, the MCU seems to have been stuck for a while now. Jonathan Majors, known for his role as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU is also facing trial which could further delay the projects.

Amidst all these problems, Benedict Cumberbatch arrives with a ray of hope. In an interview, the actor confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Doctor Strange in the MCU. The Sherlock actor further remarked that the shooting will most likely begin next year. “There are some Marvel capers in the making next year,” said Cumberbatch. He further added that he plays multiple variants of himself in the MCU and was quite excited to do that.

“Strange would meet versions of himself. It was something I wanted to lean into. We could have gone even further, and maybe it will go into the future. Who knows what other versions we might need in the multiverse chapter of the MCU? But it was very enjoyable to play all the variants of myself.”

The movie that he seems to be talking about is most likely the upcoming magnum opus Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. With strikes and assault charges, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set for a release date of 1st May 2026 in theaters across the U.S.
