Henry Cavill’s Superman is one of the best examples of how it’s difficult to accept certain things. One of the most comic-accurate iterations of the superhero didn’t get the treatment it deserved due to a series of bad decisions by the studio. While many of us hoped to have him for one last time in The Flash, we didn’t receive something more than a CGI disaster.
Interestingly, before the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Henry Cavill also expressed his wish to be changed into a CGI character if any of his scenes were needed. It was during the Happy, Sad Confused podcast that the star didn’t opt to return for any re-shoot for the Snyder Cut.
When the Snyder Cut was announced after a prolonged battle between Zack Snyder fans and the studio, it turned out to be a 4 hour-long movie, far longer than the Joss Whedon mess fans witnessed in the theaters.
Henry Cavill didn’t have any problem with a CGI version of him
It has been often seen in many projects how the absence of certain figures is filled with CGI. Henry Cavill had something similar in his mind for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. According to our ex-Superman, he didn’t shoot anything for the 4-hour-long project which was then being thought as a mini-series.
Henry Cavill openly replied to Josh Horowitz on his question about Snyder Cut shoots that Snyder had all the shots and could use them along with a few additional reshoots.
“I didn’t because we know what happened to my character. Was it? It’s so long ago now. Everything that he shot is what he’s using. Of course, there are certain things you can add.”
The Enola Holmes actor elaborated that the 300 director would not need any actor to reshoot for his cut as everything can be solved by CGI.
“Let’s talk about the opening of the movie with the invasion of Earth and some of the Gods defending Earth, etc. Yeah, okay, that’s all CGI apart from a few characters. There’s stuff there which you can build in post. You can spend $600 million making CGI stuff. Yes, I would definitely say there’s a four and a half hour movie there. It’s in the can plus the stuff which they’re going to craft in post now.”
Cavill was not completely wrong as Snyder only had to hardly re-shoot anything for the director’s cut most important of which was the Epilogue ‘Knightmare’ scene at the end of the movie which is a significant difference between both the cuts.
Henry Cavill’s horrendous CGI figure in The Flash
While Zack Snyder’s films flaunt unique, gritty, and beautiful CGI work, The Flash featured some of the worst CGI works of all time. It is a common topic of discussion between the fans of both major superhero companies about how their CGI work is evolving backward. The ones who were known as the masters of this art have CGI work are now seem to be competing against each other on who can do it worse.
The fans were disappointed when The Flash’s list of bad CGI work also included an unwatchable version of Henry Cavill’s Superman. The whole climactic Chronobowl scene featured cameos of many previous DC superheroes. In the sequence, we witnessed George Reeves, Christopher Reeves, Cavill, and Nicholas Cage’s Superman along with a list of cameos by other superheroes.
As expected, the fans were highly disappointed after watching such a treatment and it also impacted the box office of the film. Although Andy Muscietti justified it as “intended”, the audience didn’t take it and the movie will now always be remembered as the one with a series of horrendous CGI sequences.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Flash will be streamed on Max.
