Daniel Craig as James Bond carved out his place in the hearts of people. So when he decided to retire, fans of the franchise and character wanted the star to have a fitting farewell. No Time To Die successfully delivered a great goodbye to the spy. However, it was only one mistake away from getting spoiled.
Everyone knows that Bond dies in the film. But as per Léa Seydoux, one of the biggest challenges was to keep this twist a secret. After all, if this had been leaked, the film would have fallen like a pack of cards. But keeping this twist a secret wasn’t easy. Seydoux exclaimed how lucky they were that things worked out for them.
Léa Seydoux Revealed The Immense Pressure On Cast And Crew To Keep No Time To Die Unspoiled
In No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s James Bond is seen enjoying a quiet life with Madeline, played by Léa Seydoux, in Jamaica, after he left active service. But Jeffrey Wright’s Felix Leiter calls 007 and asks him for help. So the spy leaves his happy life and returns to stop Rami Malek’s Safin, who has tech that can adversely affect the world.
In the end, he dies to save the world. But if this plot point had leaked before the theatrical release, there would have been an uproar from fans and it would have spoiled the main twist of the movie. As expected, there was huge pressure on the cast and crew to keep the secret close to their chest.
Léa Seydoux, the French actress who played Bond’s love interest Madeline Swann in the film expressed how difficult it was to keep the secret under wraps. In an interview with Radio Times (via Daily Mail), she said:
“Oh yes, I couldn’t tell. I was surprised that it didn’t leak. Because if it did, we were f***ed! If the secret is revealed… my God! Maybe some people knew it. I don’t know. But I was very surprised [it didn’t get out] – we had to keep the secret for such a long time.”
However, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief (or sadness) since Craig’s tenure as the super spy is over. Now, the main question is- who will be the next James Bond?
Who Will Be The Next James Bond After Daniel Craig?
Daniel Craig has appeared as James Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale, 2008’s Quantum of Solace, 2012’s Skyfall, 2015’s Spectre, and 2021’s No Time To Die. He took over the role from Pierce Brosnan. So who will be the one to take the mantle from him?
Various high-profile names have been floated. Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Aaron Taylor Johnson, and more are fan favorites to get the role of 007. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. Producer of Bond films, Barbara Broccoli, mentioned in 2022 that they hadn’t finalized anyone.
Deadline reported her saying:
“Nobody’s in the running. We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”
As such, it looks like it will be quite some time before a shortlist is announced and someone is finalized.
No Time To Die is available on Amazon Prime Video.
