Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard
Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife, Amber Heard over an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post back in 2018. The op-ed was titled, “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” Although she never mentioned Johnny Depp’s name, it clearly looked like she is implying that abused her when they were together.
In June 2022, the court declared that the op-ed was actually about Johnny Depp and ordered Amber Heard to pay roughly $10 million in compensatory damages. The defamation trial divided the internet as the fans of the two celebrities clashed on the internet quite often.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard got married in 2015
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp first met in 2009 on the sets of Bruce Robinson’s 2011 movie, The Rum Diary. Fast forward to January 2014, the two became close and it was revealed that the two got engaged. In February 2015, they finally got married on Depp’s private island, Little Hall’s Pond Cay, in the Bahamas.
However, their marriage was chaotic and shortlived as just 15 months later, it was announced that Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp citing irreconcilable differences. She also obtained a temporary restraining order against Depp, alleging that he had been physically abusive toward her throughout their relationship. Depp denied the allegations.
