As we speak, the world is gearing up for the year’s epic July releases that will witness Tom Cruise’s penultimate Mission: Impossible film take over the theatres worldwide the week before Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling saunter into the screens in pink cars and yellow rollerblades. Accompanying their utopian vision is the equally destructive and apocalyptic nightmare of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer which premieres alongside Greta Gerwig’s Barbie to give this generation’s audience the most colorful whiplash of the decade.
However, despite the combination of the three epic visions being executed on a scale of unbelievable proportions, there lies at the heart of the matter a looming, threatening, existential question: who comes out on top when Cruise, Barbie, and Nolan struggle for control over the same crowd?
Tom Cruise Fans Rally For IMAX Screens For M: I 7
While the world awaits the visionary delicacy that Gerwig has promised with Barbie, the only logistical thought that crosses the minds of cinema-goers is that the theatres will be getting too crowded. And so, when they are not busy thinking about juggling between screenings to fit in a double feature of Nolan’s Oppenheimer alongside Margot Robbie’s film, the fans are advocating for a division of labor by locking in the PVRs and the IMAXs and the Dolbys of this world and assigning them to their most suited patrons.
For Tom Cruise and his extraordinary journey as Ethan Hunt that is finally coming to an end, nothing short of an IMAX screen can do justice to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. On the other hand, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer will be taking up all the IMAXs of the world when it releases a week later, cornering Cruise and his film and giving it only a week of solo fly-by time in which to gather all its box office collections and undivided audience attention.
In this tussle for who gets the bigger and the best screen, Barbie becomes the sore third wheel in this otherwise epic love triangle for being the only non-action film. The film which will be seing a primarily Dolby screening is in fact happy with its home in the Dolby Land while her warring siblings get to fight for their ownership over the realm of IMAX.
Barbie, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible 7 – a Cinematic Era
July 2023 will redefine the power of Hollywood as floodgates open up and in rushes the masterful creations of three of the greatest artists and auteurs of the generation. The sensory overload from the epic experience that awaits the viewers will be unparalleled in its magnitude –
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer starring an ensemble cast led by Cillian Murphy witnesses the events leading up to Trinity and the invention of the first atomic bomb, forever changing the course of humankind by handing them a weapon of mass destruction.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie takes a close and cathartic look inside the perfect and unquestionable utopia that stifles the perfect doll as she ventures out into the Real World for the first time in her life (with Ken and his rollerblades, of course!)
Tom Cruise, in the meantime, returns to deliver the epic penultimate saga of his super spy Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 in order to build up to the events that will ultimately end this chapter of Cruise’s life forever.
Mission: Impossible 7 premieres on July 14, 2023.
Oppenheimer and Barbie will premiere on July 21, 2023.
