Baldur’s Gate 3 Features Controversial Setting that’ll Give Enemies 400% Damage Bonus

For those of you that may be unaware of new gaming features of late, Baldur’s Gate 3 has a feature called Karmic Dice which will automatically put its players at risk of suffering a giant spike in damage. Luckily, some of the most ardent players are sharing how to be able to switch that feature off for future reference.

In a reddit post, users akdavidxy and Havelok have collaborated to try and alert fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 of this setting and that it will be active during the start of their gameplay. Karmic Dice is a feature that alters the outcome of the next dice roll in the game after the rolls have consistently failed, which would allow the player to succeed in that particular instance.

In addition to what it does for the player, Karmic Dice also affects the dice rolls of your enemies. Coming from user akdavidxy’s determinations of the game, he explained that enemies attacked him with a 30 or 40 percent chance even in the early stages of the game.

The user even explains,

The higher your [armor class] is, the more critical hits [you] take, and since crits do double damage, the effect of this in terms of damage is actually two times as strong.”

That might be a little hard to explain for beginning gamers but it seems that with a higher reward like armor class, one must also take more risk which comes in the form of critical hits. The feature was deemed a “massive penalty” for players choosing a defensive character during their gameplay.

As a way to navigate around this new feature, other players have promptly advised Baldur’s Gate 3 gamers and other enthusiasts of the game to switch the setting off. The game’s creative director has even come out and suggested that newcomers to the game should create their own character to help mitigate the issue.

Swen Vincke of Larian Studios has said,

“They work better if you’ve played the game already once because then you see it through their eyes. What was Shadowheart thinking the first time she saw you? And now you know when you’re in their head.”

Obviously, the feature has divided fans, but we’ll see how it affects the future and gameplay of the game down the line.

What do you think to this feature? Is it something that’ll impact how you play, or are you just going to see it how it goes? Let us know in the comments!
