Baldur’s Gate 3 has a Save Bug but there’s a Solution!

Baldur’s Gate 3 finally released on Thursday, August 3, and fans have already found a major bug in the game. This particular glitch prevents gamers from saving their progress in the system, making some start from the beginning. Players are reporting that after carefully crafting their characters and sitting through the introduction, a crash in the system means starting over from scratch. Baldur’s Gate 3 requires 122 GB of space and is said to have a total of 174 hours of cinematic cutscenes. There is no doubt many anticipated bugs would appear in such a large game, however, a basic issue like this so early in the release is cause for concern.

If you are one of the gamers who bought Baldur’s Gate 3 or were excited to get it, do not worry, Larian Studios has already acknowledged the problem and posted on Twitter/X with some  solutions. The studio’s post says the following:

“If you’re having trouble saving or loading in Baldur’s Gate 3, check this support page for troubleshooting steps!”

One suggested solution some players are using to correct the Baldur’s Gate 3 bug has been floating around various gaming forums and is on the Larian site. It suggests:

(1) Turn off cloud sync to Baldur’s Gate 3

(2) Remove the folder “C:\Users\myUser\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3” and

(3) Start the game and do not enable the cloud sync.

There is certainly going to be a negative critical response to Baldur’s Gate 3 coming out of the gate with a big issue. Various major developers have been pushing patchwork over completed products in the past few months, which makes this a troublesome development. Nevertheless, Larian Studios has not had such a widespread audience using the game at one time, until now. There are circumstances where beta testers have not discovered a problem, only for the millions of players who purchased the game to find it. As carefully as a video game studio can be, sometimes these bugs slip through the cracks.

As to the current state of success for Baldur’s Gate 3 numbers are still rolling in, but it is looking good. Steam has seen more than 440,000 concurrent players and Twitch has had 480,000 concurrent players. Gamers and critics have shown a resounding positivity for the title so far, and it appears the Larian Studios game will continue to be successful.

The title is so massive, some reviewers are even doing a review-in-progress to ensure for fans that the quality remains strong from beginning to end. Baldur’s Gate 3 has a long way to go to prove itself with this traumatic save bug, so it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the title.
