Baldur's Gate 3

Recently, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been gaining a lot of attention from players since it was released on PC over a week ago, but now there is a lot of discussion among players about whether or not there will be any form of downloadable content in the future which can contain more stories, more areas, and hopefully, more classes and during Gamescom Larian’s Senior Product Manager hinted there is a possibility.

During Gamescom, there were many questions that guests put forward to the staff of Larian during an interview between IGN and Larian. Larian’s Senior Product Manager, Tom Butler, was asked the question as to whether or not there will be any future content being developed for Baldur’s Gate 3, and so far, the response he has given was somewhat lacking as it has left players even more curious.

During the interview, Tom Butler stated, “We’ll carry on patching for a while and then we’re all going to take a holiday and then we’ll figure out what we do next,” which has made a lot of players curious as to when we may hear more news on what could come next in Baldur’s Gate 3, understandably after the games long development time the staff that have been working on it deserve a long holiday and some time to relax before they start working on more content.

Throughout the interview, Tom Butler also mentioned, “But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don’t know what yet.” that tells us that they are at least thinking about the future of the game and what could come next, but this isn’t a definite as they can always decide they are done with the game, but as they want to work more on the game it is a good sign that they will want to do more in the future.

Will this potential DLC be free or cost players a fortune?

From what we have been told throughout the development of Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a belief that there will be no microtransactions within Baldur’s Gate 3, but with future DLC being on the table, many believe that this could change their opinion on microtransactions and sell future DLC for a hefty price especially if it’s a significant content release that brings with it a lot of new content for players to enjoy.

In the past, Larian has released games like Divinity 2: Original Sin, which contain downloadable content which is free to download which include lots of new quests and areas that players are able to enjoy whilst also boasting the fact that there are no in-game purchases for anything like weapons, armour, or any classes which many games tend to be filled with recently so it is a good feeling to see a game that doesn’t have anything like microtransactions included or planned to be inserted anytime soon.
