Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive upcome title from Larian Studios expected to take players a great deal of time to finish. In fact, Swen Vincke, the director of the upcoming game and founder of Larian, believes it will take 75 to 100 hours to complete. As for those who have their sights set on completionist goals, Vincke has said this will likely take 200 hours of gameplay. The game also includes 174 hours of cinematics, although, these are not all visible in one playthrough and require every option or choice to be taken in multiple campaigns.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to release for Windows on August 3 and for PlayStation 5 on September 6. As more information becomes available concerning this huge game, future Baldur’s Gate 3 owners are starting to figure out how they will schedule time to play. While some may use their free time, stay up late at night, or schedule out their weekend, others will be listening to the Larian Studios developers.

A recent Twitter post from the Baldur’s Gate 3 account has provided gamers with a sick note for use at work. It details the exact plans players will have at launch and explains why they will not be making it into the office. It hilariously says what will be taking place on “Baldur’s Day” and what employers should expect from their employees during a historic event.
What the Sick Note for Baldur’s Day Says in More Detail
The sick note is titled as “Request for Special Leave Baldur’s Day Dispensation” and provides blanks for name, company, department, and supervisor. It then has a “Requested Dates for Special Leave” section, with blanks for the start and end date. The actual meat of the document, labeled “Motivation for Special Leave” explains why the employee will be too busy playing Baldur’s Gate 3 to show up for work. It says the following:
“I the undersigned, hereby request a Special Dispensation from my regular duties and obligations in observance of the momentous occasion of the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 (“Baldur’s Day”). As fate would have it, l am compelled to answer a calling to gather my party and embark on an epic adventure.
The release is a long-awaited time of festivity and merriment, celebrated by denizens and creatures of the realms alike. In the true spirit of fellowship, I seek the understanding and support of the Company and humbly request the opportunity to participate in adventuring parties across the Forgotten Realms.
Though my absence from laborious duties might impede the Company’s regular operations in the short term, do understand that upon the conclusion of my quest, I shall resume my duties with renewed enthusiasm and dedication. The experiences gained and bonds forged will undoubtedly translate into newfound skills and relationships that shall benefit both the Company and myself.
I understand that the decision to grant this Special Leave rests solely with the Company, and I respect their authority in this matter. I sincerely hope for their consideration and the chance to partake in this eagerly anticipated odyssey. Thank you for your understanding and support during this festive time. May the spirit of Baldur’s Day inspire greatness and camaraderie throughout the Realms.”
The hilariously written and well crafted sick note, then leaves two lines for a signature and date. However, this is not the end of the document, there is also a disclaimer in small print which says:
“Use of this form and embarking on any quest are at your own risk and peril. While extending you their best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable Baldur’s Day celebration, the Larian Studios Legal Department assumes no liability for what may transpire during your daring exploits. Proceed with valor and caution.”
Clearly the developers at Larian Studios are having a good time preparing for Baldur’s Gate 3 to enter the gaming arena, and can joke about the length of the title. There will certainly be gamers adjusting their schedules to play this epic upcoming RPG and these creators recognize that fact.
What do you think of the Baldur’s Gate 3 sick note? Will you be using it to get out of work with your boss? And will you be putting in the hundreds of hours described by Vincke? Leave a comment and let us know what you will be doing when Baldur’s Gate 3 finally releases.
