Avengers: Secret Wars Allegedly Plans to Reboot the MCU

While there are not many details available about the upcoming films, Secret Wars is expected to bring back some of the most loved Marvel characters. The studio has not shared anything about its plans for the MCU post-Avengers 6.

A rumor has suggested that the studio might have similar plans for the MCU’s future as James Gunn had for DCU. A new rumor surrounding the upcoming film claims that Avengers: Secret Wars would reboot the MCU that started with the 2008 film Iron Man and would introduce fans to an “All-New, All-Different MCU…”

Some reports also suggest the same, claiming that the movie will take inspiration from the events of the 2015 Secret Wars, which also features a sort of reboot for the Marvel Universe, instead of the 1984 Secret Wars: Marvel’s first crossover event.

Which Secret Wars Would MCU Adapt For Avengers 6?

There are multiple issues of Secret Wars. While there are numerous assumptions regarding which issue the studio is planning to adapt for Avengers: Secret Wars, many believe it could be a loose adaptation of the 1984 and 2015 issues of Secret Wars.

The events of both take place in Battleworld, where The Beyonder transports Marvel heroes and villains to fight each other. The 1984 comic issues feature the first crossover event, as it brings together several Marvel heroes and villains. The same follows in the 2015 issues. However, it results in incursions of realities as they collide and destroy each other.

The concept of incursions was introduced in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is believed to be the reason why the studio may adapt the events of the 2015 Secret Wars comic for Avengers 6, which could then result in a soft reboot or reset for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Secret Wars is set to release on 7 May 2027.
