Since the X-Men franchise is not essentially a property of the Marvel Studios, it was impossible to bring the team of mutants to join alongside the Avengers. In hopes of bringing down the Mad Titan, the heroes gave it their all in the events of Avengers: Endgame.
A Marvel comic gives the idea of what would have happened if a particular X-Man or an X-Woman had joined the sides of the Avengers. With the usage of the Phoenix Force, it has been theorized that superhero Jean Grey would have been enough to kill Thanos in the MCU!
Jean Grey Could Kill Thanos Alongside The Avengers
The character of Jean Grey has always been shown as a powerful femme fatale in the comics as well as in the X-Men movies. In the comics, the cosmic energy called the Phoenix Force merges itself with Jean Grey’s consciousness, giving her immense power.
The Phoenix Force essentially allows her to manipulate matter and energy in the universe. On the other side, with the use of the Infinity Gauntlet and the Infinity Stones, Thanos was able to give a proper fight to the Avengers at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
In the comics, the Mad Titan is seen fighting against his son Thane who has the Phoenix Force inside of him. Thanos, however, remarks that he doesn’t know how to handle the power that he has wielded. With this in mind, if Jean Grey would have joined the side of the superheroes during the events of Infinity War and Endgame, she would have been enough to handle and kill Thanos in a matter of seconds.
James Gunn Believes The Guardians Were Enough To Beat The Avengers!
With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director James Gunn had a pretty high regard for his team. In an interview, the director bluntly stated that he always thought the Guardians would beat the Avengers in a matter of seconds!
“Listen, I always thought that the Guardians would beat the s**t out of The Avengers easily. Like, it’s just they’re from outer space. They have technology that is pretty advanced, so it would be hard to beat them.”
With Disney acquiring every franchise out there, it seems that a crossover of the X-Men and the MCU is imminent. The latest MCU movie that will see the crossover of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, titled Deadpool 3, is slated for a release date of 3rd May 2024 in theaters across the world.
