Assassin’s Creed Mirage Partners With Owo, Developer of Wearable Gaming Tech – Feel Every Kill and Parkour Move

Gaming has always been a sector of innovation and improvement. Whether it’s decades ago with the invention of Pong, a little less, but still long time ago with true 3D gaming, or now, with wearable gaming tech to fully immerse us in the experience.

We continually seem to be trying to get deeper and deeper into our video games, with the eventual aim seemingly being a Ready: Player One type of situation where we can live, breathe, play and fight in a virtual reality of our own choosing, feeling and experiencing everything as if it were actually real. Maybe that’s going a bit far, but with this latest announcement, we’re not far off it!

Assassin’s Creed Mirage and OWO

No-one had this on their bingo card at all, but in an announcement today, it seems Ubisoft have partnered up with OWO, the wearable gaming technology company, to have a branded and unique version of the tech made available for a limited few players to enjoy.

If you’re not aware of OWO, in short, they’re one of the frontrunners for innovative gaming technology right now, and are focusing their efforts on a wearable vest that’ll allow players to actually feel what is happening in game.

The limited edition specially branded Assassin’s Creed Mirage edition of the Owo Haptic Gaming System includes the patented OWO skin, 20 gel pads, a digital game code for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a charging cable, an ‘OWO device’ and a storage pouch. Currently compatible with the PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5, the device is looking to revolutionize what it means to be a player in a video game.

Discussing the partnership, lead producer of Assassin’s Creed Mirage at Ubisoft Bordeaux, Fabian Salomon had this to say.

“By leveraging OWO’s ground-breaking technologies and expertise, we are able to immerse players in the world, sounds and sensations of Assassin’s Creed Mirage in an innovative and enhanced way… we can’t wait for our players to discover and enjoy the coming-of-age story of Basim with the power of OWO.”

With the vest allowing players to “feel all impacts” and experience the parkour of Assassin’s Creed like never before, it’s understandable why the two companies felt a good fit for the other. What other games may join Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage in the future is unknown, but this is a major coup for a relatively young and inexperienced piece of tech/company. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s definitely an exciting time to be a gamer!

The accompanying smartphone app will allow players a variety of customisation, from modifying the intensity of the haptic feedback at certain levels, to stopping it all together in certain regions. No price has currently been announced, but the ‘Founder Edition’ currently sits at €499, and with the extras included in the Assassin’s Creed Mirage bundle, it’ll likely be more expensive.

What do you think? Are you likely to purchase one? Is this just another gimmick like 3D films? We don’t think so, and like virtual reality, we think you’ll all have something like this in years to come. Let us know in the comments what you think!
