'As long as he's not Ghost Rider': Keanu Reeves Expressing Interest for Wolverine Has Marvel Fans Switching Sides on MCU Ghost Rider

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has always been one of our favorite characters from the Marvel universe. Needless to say, we were all quite bummed out when he put the claws down and retired from the role for good. However, this only made the excitement for his return ten times better! Have you ever wondered what it would’ve been like to see another actor in his shoes? Say, Keanu Reeves?

Keanu Reeves is yet another actor who has time and again left us speechless with his work in the entertainment industry. He’s currently all set to appear as John Wick in the namesake film which will be released next month. Just like a lot of other actors, Keanu Reeves, too, has a superhero he would’ve liked to play and it’s none other than the fan-favorite mutant, Wolverine.

While Keanu Reeves has previously worked with the DC Studios on the 2005 film Constantine, he has been eyeing Wolverine, a character from Marvel, for a long time. Just recently, Reeves took to Reddit with a Q&A session to promote his upcoming film, John Wick: Chapter 4. Over there, a user asked him if there was a role in his career he turned down and then regretted later. To this, Reeves replied stating that while there was no role that he regrets turning down, he has always wanted to play Wolverine, of course to no avail.

Unfortunately for Reeves, Hugh Jackman has been linked to Wolverine for a long, long time now. While he did let go of the role for a bit previously, he is now once again returning to play the mutant in Deadpool 3. However, Reeves’ interest in Marvel isn’t one-sided. Marvel President Kevin Feige once talked about wanting to bring the actor on board.

“We talk to him for almost every other film we make. I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

This is not the first time Reeves talked about his interest in Wolverine. In a 2004 interview with The Sun, he was asked which Marvel hero he would ever want to play. You guessed it right! It was Wolverine. Reeves stated,

“Back in the day, I wanted to play Wolverine. But that was a long time ago, and they have got a really good Wolverine now.”

Well, considering this interview happened in 2014 and the Reddit Q&A was just a few days ago, Reeves still has his heart set on Wolverine. We wonder if he’ll go through with it if given the opportunity!

Wolverine isn’t the only Marvel character Reeves talked about playing. He previously revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that his 10-year-old self would’ve loved to play Ghost Rider. The Matrix actor quickly became many fans’ favorite pick for the motorcycle-riding Johnny Blaze. However, there are a few fans who can’t see him play the “fiery” character. What about Wolverine, though? A lot of fans can totally see that happening! Here’s what they said on Twitter:

While fans want to see it happening and Reeves might not oppose the idea either, it is important to note that Jackman is back. Is there any way Reeves could play Wolverine in upcoming MCU projects? Maybe through a multiverse variant? After all, the multiverse makes everything possible!

Deadpool 3 is set to release on November 08, 2024, and Reeves will be next seen in John Wick: Chapter 4 on March 24, 2023.
