Moviegoers are highly excited about the simultaneous release of Barbie and Oppenheimer, but some are unsure which to watch first. As Tom Cruise reportedly makes it a point to watch nearly every new release in the closest theater, many people are curious to know how he would approach one of the most epic battles in film history.
We are, of course, referring to July 21, when Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie clash in a tense confrontation that is sure to spark many fights and debates. Well, there is not much difference between the two films other than that one is Oppenheimer and the other is a star-studded, hotly anticipated epic from an Academy Award nominee.
Meanwhile, Cruise is also busy with the release of his upcoming action film, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.
The actor has been touring the globe for the past few weeks promoting his latest installment of the Mission: Impossible series. The movie premieres on July 12, which is a little more than a week before Barbie and Oppenheimer, which will open in theaters on July 21.
Tom Cruise Picks His Winner in Barbie vs Oppenheimer War?
Yesterday afternoon, on his 61st birthday, Tom Cruise attended the Australian premiere of Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One at Sydney’s Darling Harbour International Convention Center. He was accompanied by his co-stars Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Simon Pegg.
Cruise, thankfully, appears to be a very generous and supportive actor, openly tweeting last week about his excitement for the three new films he is not in. Since Barbie and Oppenheimer are released on the same day, some moviegoers must choose which to see first. Many have given the double-film event the name ‘Barbenheimer’.
The back-to-back double feature option, affectionately referred to by fans as Barbenheimer has also attracted the interest of famous people, including Tom Cruise. Although he will not be seeing both of them on the same day, the action star said he will see the Cillian Murphy starrer on Friday and then Margot Robbie’s movie on Saturday.
The Edge of Tomorrow actor recently stated the following to the Sydney Morning Herald:
“I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday.”
What Tom Cruise Has To Say About Harrison Ford?
On June 28, the leading man of the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One tweeted images of himself in front of the posters for Oppenheimer, Barbie, and Joy Ride, three films that will be released in the following month.
Tom Cruise, who is now 61, does not seem to be slowing down any time soon. In fact, he wants to catch up to fellow screen icon Harrison Ford, 80, who just finished filming the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones series.
Ford received praise from Cruise for continuing his iconic role, while tweeting:
The Jerry Maguire star seems to be always raising his support for his fellow actors.
Mission: Impossible —Dead Reckoning Part One will be released in theaters on Saturday (Part Two will be released next year). Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, the IMF agent, which he first played in Mission Impossible (1996).
Meanwhile, both Barbie and Oppenheimer will be hitting theaters on July 21.
