Political figures have already begun launching their bids for the Oval Office as the American people speed toward another presidential election in 2024. Despite not being eligible, Arnold Schwarzenegger is very interested in running for president in 2024.
The action star said to journalist Chris Wallace that “of course” he would run for president if he were qualified. Schwarzenegger previously held the office of California’s 38th governor, which he had from 2003 to 2011.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Said He’d Run For POTUS If He Was Eligible
Action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger said that if he were eligible, he would “absolutely” run for President of the United States in 2024. Unfortunately for the former governor of California, the Constitution stipulates that in order to run for office, a candidate must be a natural-born citizen of the United States.
While speaking to Chris Wallace on Max and CNN’s Who’s Talking?, the actor, producer, and former governor of California says that if the constitutional requirements to be commander in chief did not include being a natural-born citizen, “Of course, I would throw myself into the presidential race if I was eligible.”
“The field was wide open in 2016, and I think the field is open right now,” he said about his rationale. “Who is there? There is really not a person that can bring everyone together, who is here today that people say, ‘OK, he’s not too old,’ or he’s not too this or too that.”
Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria, is not eligible to run for president because the Constitution only allows for citizens of the United States who were born here. However, he declared that he would “absolutely” be preparing for a 2024 candidacy if he could.
“Put me in because it’s, look — it’s a no-brainer,” he said. “I see so clearly how I could win that election.”
According to Variety, Ronald Regan served as the 40th President of the United States from 1981 to 1989, a Hollywood actor taking on the role of America’s Commander in Chief is not unheard of.
The Terminator Actor Explained That He’d Be A Good Candidate
According to Arnold Schwarzenegger, he would make a good president because Americans want someone who can ease the country’s escalating political tensions.
During the interview, he compared his run then to the current candidate landscape and political climate.
“It’s like me and California,” he told Wallace. “Running for governor, it was clear that people are looking for some new answer, not a right-wing or left-wing, but someone that can bring the nation together and doesn’t see the other party as the enemy.”
He continued,
“There are just so many things that need to be done. And can be done. And what makes it so wonderful is because it’s doable. It’s all doable, or at least it’s just people coming together and [saying] yes, we can do it.”
The Kindergarten Cop star is not the first Hollywood actor to consider running for president. Dwayne Johnson often stated that he would think about running for office before retracting his remarks in favor of continuing his successful acting career. Schwarzenegger is well-versed in politics, and it’s difficult not to picture a campaign where he wins the popular vote despite Johnson’s lack of significant political experience.
