For a long time, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were considered arch-enemies in the Hollywood industry. The rivalry began in the 70s and lasted until the 90s when the two stars decided to bury the hatchet and become friends.

When they were the two biggest action stars in the industry, with fantastic physiques and acting abilities, all they saw in each other as competition. On numerous instances, the 75-year-old actor and the Rocky actor have taken a jibe at each other.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger first arrived in Hollywood, he understood Sylvester Stallone would be his toughest competitor. Fans of Schwarzenegger and Stallone could see their feud. According to reports, when the former California governor won the award for best newcomer in 1977, the Rocky actor was sure that Schwarzenegger was his main rival. 

Schwarzenegger was aware the 76-year-old actor is well-known in the profession and has a sizable fan base. During an interview, Sly admitted that he and Schwarzenegger hated each other. In an interview, the Rambo actor said,

“We couldn’t stand to be in the same galaxy together for a while. We truly, truly loathed each other. He’s quite clever. He goes around town saying, ‘I can’t wait to do this film…’ I go to my agent, ‘Get that thing away from him. Get people options on me.’”

He further added,

“I got it and I said, ‘What a piece of s*** this is.’ He goes, ‘Ha ha ha! At least I wasn’t pregnant in a film Arnold. We’re even.” 

When Schwarzenegger was asked about his cold war with Stallone, the True Lies actor said he and Stallone did all the crazy things because they were so averse to each other. They both wanted to get ahead of each other in Hollywood and it was very evident for the world to see.

After all these years, both the Rocky Balboa actor and the Terminator actor have established their own legacies. Schwarzenegger once stated that despite their past rivalry, he and Stallone now support each other. The dynamic action duo appeared together in The Expendables film series as well as the Escape Plan. During a recent interview, Stallone discussed his rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The 76-year-old actor said,

“He was superior. He just had all the answers. He had the body. He had the strength. That was his character. I had to get my ass kicked constantly, whereas Arnold, he never got hurt much. And I’m going, ‘Arnold, you could go out and fight a dragon and you’d come back with a Band-Aid.’”

Stallone compares himself and The Terminator actor to Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. They were both great actors in the 1980s who could turn any film into a huge hit. Thankfully, Stallone and Schwarzenegger have buried their differences, and are now good friends.
