Arnold Schwarzenegger alleges political attack on his film Last Action Hero
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was asked about his most underrated roles of all time. Schwarzenegger replied that it was in the film Last Action Hero which was released in 1993. Collateral Damage star shared,
“It was slaughtered before anybody saw it. It was literally a political attack because I was campaigning for [former President George H.W. Bush], but Bill Clinton won. Last Action Hero was great — it wasn’t fantastic, but it was underrated. Now, more and more people are seeing it and saying, “I love this movie.” I’m getting the residual checks, so I know it’s true. It made money — that’s always an important thing for me. Because it’s show business, right?”
Last Action Hero is a satirical fantasy action comedy film, which was directed by John McTiernan, who was the filmmaker of the 80s hit films Predator and Die Hard. The movie was written by David Arnott and Shane Black. Arnold Schwarzenegger played the role of Jack Slater, a Los Angeles police detective in the Jack Slater action film franchise and Austin O’Brien played the role of Danny Madigan, a boy who magically gets transported into the Slater universe. The film was a parody of the action film genre. It was not a critical and commercial hit at the time of release, but later it gained a cult following with its home video release.
